I debated on writing this thread, but I was awarded the following from BU:

Federal Pell Grant (4300$)
Academic Competitiveness Grant (750)
Loans (3500 and 2000 unsub)
Total Package= $10,550

My FAFSA EFC = 1281

No assets, we owe 200k$ on our home, while it is only valued at about $70k right now. The REAL reason why I am so FED UP with BU is because they requested additional information TWICE from me. Both times I responded within the week to the Financial Aid Office and figured it out. I sent in ALL items on my time, yet my application is considered “second-priority” apparently to all other applicants.

BU told me that since they requested additional information and I didn’t give them my selective service registration (oh by the way I’m 16, they didn’t need this and realized it AFTER they requested it from me and I didn’t need to do anything) that my application wasn’t reviewed in time and ALL grants/funds were given to people who completed their application sooner.

Completed it sooner? It’s not my fault that BU can’t look at my app in time, if I met the deadlines, then I should be considered for FA. I’m absolutely furious right now. Maybe this is BU’s way of taking a kid with such low need, and giving him no aid, but consider his application “late”, so it looks like BU actually meets a higher % of need. Take notes from WUSTL BU, waitlist applicants with significant FA ;)

Do I have a right to be frustrated? I totally agree so. This isn’t right at all. I probably would have turned down BU for Rochester ($51k), UF (pretty much costless, maybe 3k in loans) or USC (best school of all four, FA is pending =

At least I’ve heard from BU, so I’ll give you that. I got notified in early April, while it’s the 11th now and I’m still waiting on 'SC.

Good luck to everyone at BU. I’m not bitter, just upset. Why waste my money filling out the PROFILE, and all that stuff for nothing? College Board wouldn’t give me a fee-waiver, despite my low-income(40k total w/ 2 parents) with two college students. Bologna!
