FSU class of 2025 admission and decision discussion

The stress of the Freshman housing at FSU is almost enough of a reason to walk away. It’s probably 4th or 5th on my daughter’s list - and we’re still waiting on March decisions. Even though you can get all but $50 of your housing deposit back, I don’t enjoy having such a short window from the acceptance to decide whether FSU is a viable enough option to throw a couple hundred dollars at for a spot in a housing pool. We haven’t even visited yet.

What was GPA? I think it was several factors they looked at.

@LMac as of right now summer a is available online, I am not sure about summer b. I would check with the school.

If you are not going to attend should you let them know? If it opens up a spot for a waitlist student I told D to do it. She said you don’t tell them, I think she is wrong.

@LMac I don’t know what her recalculated GPA is. I am trying to figure that out. I have some classes that are questionable as to whether or not they would be included.

I did reach out to FSU who said a student needed a 4.0+ GPA to be considered. My guess is that she didn’t meet that threshold.

I spoke with them yesterday. They have not confirmed if they will allow Summer Admits to take the classes online. We are in NJ, so my son will still be in high school at the same time as that Summer semester starts.

I thought they were going to offer in person tours to those that got accepted, but looks like virtual at this point. Bummer.

I believe they only use the major area of studies classes, so that would be almost straight As in all those classes. Luckily the OOS tuition is not horrible. We are in the same boat. Had the GPA, but not the test scores.

The GPA calculation is tough to figure it out. My son has a 4.8 weighted so I thought it was a no brainer. But when I entered all of his grades into a spreadsheet based on the FSU guidelines, he had exactly a 4.0 so I knew it was going to be really close. Formula is…only math, language, science, social science. If it was an Honors class add .5 and an AP class add 1 point. He did have a great first semester senior year so I was able to upgrade his grades in January which put him at 4.06. That might have been the difference.

Tell them, we told Pitt and Penn State, no merit, after FSU acceptance. Penn State on portal stated we could call to have acceptance reinstated

@erd1020 some schools my daughter applied to asked whether she has decided, and if the decision is not to attend, to please withdraw so they can offer her spot/honors spot/merit money to someone else. (Which D did).

@CollegeNerd67, it’s certainly not unique to FSU, but I would not stress too much about housing. There are ways to get housing on campus even with a high housing number. There are the honors dorms, which don’t usually fill up with honors students for a long time, if at all. There are also the LLCs, which are by application.

What I don’t like about the housing contract is that your pick is of the higher (worse) number between you and your roommate. So it’s not really worth paying the $225 now, and possibly losing $50, if your future roommate waits last minute to sign up. Does anyone else agree?

Is anyone else gonna try to find their roommate before tomorrow? I feel like I should ask someone but I feel like it’s ~too soon~ lol

Don’t rush it, you have until April for the roommate search. Find the right fit for you!!

Thanks for the advice  Will we get a worse room assignment if we sign up in April rather than March? I’m living in the Honors dorm so I’m assuming they’l have room but idk

Do the contract tomorrow when the portal opens, then you have until April until adding a roommate, I’m guessing since you already know will be in Honors Dorm that would make your selection easier and look for another Honors roomate. That’s just my opinion!! My daughter will do contract tomorrow and hope to find a roommate who also did contract early !!! Good Luck

That is my plan as well

Do you find out your lottery number?

Does anyone know if the last semester grades that are reported at the end of the school year can impact merit aid? For example if you get a c will you loose your oos scholarship?
