FSU class of 2025 admission and decision discussion

I got one on February 1st, is that the same one?

Yeah it was within the last couple of days.

Yes, my D received an email several days ago. I didnā€™t read or see the email myself; I thought D said FSU stated that her application was complete, not necessarily that the review was complete. But I could have misunderstood.

Her older sibling was accepted a few years ago w/very similar stats and slightly lower test scoreā€”but this is such a strange admissions year that I simply have no feel for whether D21 will be accepted or not. Fingers crossed for us all!

@dancer7381 dates are pretty much set. FSU is first, two weeks later is UF. All the other schools are rolling, so usually UCF and USF will notify a lot of kids shortly after.

@cgemaj honestly. I donā€™t think the Florida schools are too worried. A lot of people are staying in state bc of Covid. Remember we have prepaid and bright futures so a lot of kids go for ā€œfreeā€. My older son is at USF and actually gets his Bright Futures refunded, he gets paid to go to college and in todayā€™s economy itā€™s not a bad thing.

@flprepaidmom my Dā€™s college advisor said a substantial number of apps were discarded at all schools bc they didnā€™t have scores, but who knowsšŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Yup thats what I was saying above, I heard they got many applications without test scores.

what are my chances of getting in this year if I applied early action, live in-state, have a 4.3 gpa weighted but a score of 1120 on the SAT, lots of extracurriculars, and I sent in the optional essay (which i think was pretty strong)?

Your grades and ECā€™s sound good. Going by prior year, your SAT is a little low, but maybe that wonā€™t be a problem this year. While scores at Test Optional schools like UGA trended higher this year, itā€™s likely because kids with lower scores didnā€™t submit. Since FSU isnā€™t TO, I suspect scores on average may be lower because many kids couldnā€™t test multiple times to get a higher superscore. I donā€™t work in admissions, so all this is just my guess, but I hope you get good news on the 18th. Best of luck!

Hello. My D applied to FSU by the December deadline. From what Iā€™ve been reading, the school has a really good Honors program. My D had also submitted an Honors program application. Iā€™m hoping she might have a shot at being accepted to FSU as well as their Honors program. Are they looking for anything out of the ordinary? My D is in the top 1% of her class, has a 4.4 weighted GPA, an SAT score of 1480, and has a lot of extra curricular activities and volunteering. Just curious at what they are possibly looking for. You never quite knowā€¦lol.
Thanks.

FSU is very reasonable - even at full price. My son had a 32 ACT, 34 with super score, and got the OOS waiver. He was going to do engineering but chose Alabama.

My daughter has a 30 but 32 superscore so I hope the waiver comes. They do superscore so thatā€™s good.

My gut feel is it will be easier to get in this year - only because the state of Florida is the one state that still requires test scores. Itā€™s unfortunate but many didnā€™t take the test at all or just once. So they are disadvantaged.

I feel like the back up QB who gets a chance because the QB got hurt. I think my daughter would get in anyway - but I think the odds are enhanced since thereā€™s no test optional like every other school in America.

I read UF had 12K kids who applied without a test score - they were taking the test ā€œafterā€ the deadline but within the test deadline. Many of those kids will do great, but many might not have. Itā€™s really unfortunate they didnā€™t allow test optional.

Test optional has definitely made it tougher though. The best schools have more applicants. Their yields will likely be less. I think if you applied to 7 schools before, maybe you did 9 this year., etc.

I think, if you have a 30+, your odds are better at both FSU and UF, but for those who were only to take the test once, itā€™s a bummer. But there are tons of great schools out there so all our kids will find their right homes.

What are my chances for presidential at FSU? I am a NMF, OOS, 33 ACT, 1500 SAT, 4.0 GPA, 20/405 rank, lots of leadership positions, volunteer for mental health outreach program at hospital, moderate service hours, above average essay writer.

Iā€™m OOS with a 3.7 GPA, a 29 ACT, both parents are alums, 5 leadership positions, founded a club, and 150+ service hours. thoughts on my chances? FSU is my #1 and I have been in contact with an admissions counselor, expressing how it was dream school.

@sec130 Is that 31 the composite or super score or either? Do you know if you find out about merit at the time your decision is released?

Yes I was wondering that too. We will find out merit money when decisions are released on the 18th?

Not sure if OOS waiver was composite or SS, donā€™t think I ever saw it clarified. And keep in mind that was just the cut-off last year based on applications received. Could be different this year.

Yes, I believe merit awards will be announced at the time of decision.

One school of thought is that test scores will be higher during this TO period because mostly kids with high scores will submit. Do you guys think this will hold true for FSU?

No, bc they werenā€™t TO.
So if anything overall scores will likely be lower.

Yeah thatā€™s my take. Hopefully the OOS waiver score will reflect that.
