FSU Housing

Once you are admitted and you live in housing you will receive a reapplication via FSU with instructions.

oh okay. Thanks!

Smith hall really isn’t terrible. I actually think dorman and deviney are worse. I was living there this past fall but got moved to jennie murphree for spring. Smith has nice new bathrooms and updated furniture. The only things that really bothered me were how small the rooms were and how you couldn’t move your bed. It’s pretty social but I can’t say I met everyone on my floor. There were always people hanging around outside and in the lounges though. I never had bugs but I know there was always a list at the front desk you could put your name on if you ever needed your room to be sprayed. If you have a lot of science or psychology classes the location is great, and the union and gym are only 10 minute walks. And Smith is the only dorm on campus where you can actually control your ac/heat because of the window units. I know people in kellum who had rooms that got so damp and humid because they couldn’t control their a/c for some reason.

And if anyone was wondering if reassignment was possible, well it definitely is. I got moved for smith to jennie, and I have a friend that got reassigned from kellum to wildwood, and another from deviney to wildwood. If you are really worried about getting into a nice dorm though I would definitely apply to be in a LLC.

Okay, thanks a lot!

btw, I wouldn’t worry too much about the social aspect of it. A lot of people say community style isn’t that bad and since everyone has different schedules all the showers aren’t taken etc.

First:
I don’t know about anyone else, but i lived in degraff, floor 1, it was social. I knew everyone on my floor and a ton of people from each building, they have social events almost every month (and a lot of free food), plus there are benches all around degraff where people meet and you can hang out.

Second: From what I’ve seen/heard, a lot of the times showers are broken, one week my friend had to go to the girls floor 2 floors down because all the showers in her floor didn’t work for 1.5 weeks, and there was often a wait due to that. Also the bathrooms aren’t cleaned on the weekend, quite a few people who may have had a bit too much to drink on friday/sat night will end up vomiting in the bathroom and it stays there until its cleaned monday. Honestly I loved having my own bathroom, my suitemates and I kept good care of it and never had an issue with eachothers schedule, plus we all became really good friends because of it.

Cory,

My son just got notice that he is in Reynolds for the Spring. His number was #94 and Reynolds was, I believe second or third choice.

You may want to check your FSU mail to see if you’ve gotten notice yet. Good luck!

I’ve just checked LTG, still haven’t been assigned. :frowning: hope this isn’t a bad sign.

Don’t put too much stock in it yet - he just got notice and his number was much lower than yours.

Are you male or female (sorry, not sure with the name!)? That could effect it too.

how do I know when I get assign to a room? I’m number 94. Is there a web portal to check or will I get it through the mail?

Don’t worry about it LTG, I hate my unisex name. I’m female. How does that affect it? Aren’t there more co-ed dorms than all female?

Kckoa91: check out housing assignments here:https://cfprd.oti.fsu.edu/dsa/HouAssignment/

Wait…so you son LTG has number #94 and Kckoa91 has #94 as well? That’s just great, they give out the priority number in batches/groups? I really don’t wanna live in my car for a semester. :(

lol sorry i had actually meant 100.

eh I haven’t been assigned yet. They told me I would know on the 17th so i guess I still have a few days. I hope I get a dorm close to Suwanee or fresh. I need to eat!

lol, how’d you get a decision date about housing?

I emailed FSU’s housing department on December 3rd and they said in 2 weeks I would know.

Here is an email I received back in late september

We typically end up having around 150-200 openings for spring term and at the moment have about 100 applicants, some of whom may not end up coming to FSU, so I’d say that if you sign up now you’d be in good shape to get housing. Just keep in mind that your contract is for campus housing in general and we can’t guarantee that there will be a space in one of your preferred halls.

Cory,

I just thought maybe they’d assign one gender first, then the next. It is my understanding that, even though there are co-ed dorms, males and females are separated by either floors or wings (and of course they won’t mix them in rooms or suites!). They are probably processing change requests from current students simultaneously, so it could take a few days.

Oh, and my son’s announcement was in his FSU email – not the email that FSU has on file for him, so be sure to check there.

When do we find out about how to set up our FSU email addresses?

Nevermind, I got it.

OMG! I just looked at my student account and it said I owed $1725 for housing rent. This looks like a good sign, but I can’t figure out what I’ve been assigned based on the price. Based on the price, it seems I’ve been assigned a hall utility closet. lol. I guess I’ll just wait for more info in the mail.

I checked and have the same thing. Mine is 2,095 bucks. Now i got to look back in my emails about how to do the deferment for financial aid
