FSU Spring 2013 Transfer accepted/denied stats

I'm posting this as a way for whomever applied for Spring 2013 term as a transfer student not a freshman and if you were accepted or not. The deadline is November 1, 2012.

I will start..

Major: English/Editing/Writing. Non-limited access major
GPA: 3.0
AA Degree: No/ To be completed fall 2012 with for math credits.
Accepted/Denied/Pending: Pending as I still have to complete my math credits and final grades.

I will update my post if anything comes up.

I applied for spring 2013 back on may 15th. My application is being reviewed by my major.

Major: chemical engineering non-limited access
Gp: 3.3
A.A: will be complete by fall 2013. Need to take one more calculus class.
Still waiting for admission

I applied for spring 2013 on August 7. They’ve been collecting and reviewing my data. When I check my status, it shows my personal information, application information, and under admission information it states “The foreign language entrance requirement has been met.” They’ve recieved my college and highschool transcripts. Under test scores/college level proficiency skills in reading, writing, and mathematics, I am marked satisfied. I guess it takes a while because it feels like it’s been the same status for a while.

Anyway…

Major: Computer Science
GPA: 3.14
AA Degree: Yes
Accepted/Denied/Pending: Pending

It can take over 2 months for them to get back to you with whether you’ve been accepted or not.

Your application has to be accepted by not just the university, but also your department. And then they have to get everything figured out from there. If one part of the process gets delayed at all, it can take what feels like forever to get a response.

It hasn’t been even a month yet since you applied. Just give it time. If by the end of September you haven’t gotten any word on your application status, then I would contact someone.

Based on the older threads that I have found it seems they will wait until October to send any information out. This is not from experience, but from what I have read. I am also waiting for Spring 2013 transfer also.

AA: no
Major: Criminology
GPA: 3.53

*Transferring from PA community college

Hello, I’m back. So here’s what happened. When I applied for Computer Science, FSU rejected me because I did not have all the prerequisites complete. I knew this was going to happen. At Miami Dade College, I got an associates degree in Computer Animation, hence, I took more art classes than classes related to Computer Science. It was as I was applying to FSU that I wanted to be a computer science major so I was hoping I can transfer into the major, but I guess that wasn’t possible. So I applied again (as they told me I could do so for a different major) to major in Art History, since I pretty much had all the pre req’s complete. This time I got accepted! If I do decide to go to FSU, is there anyway I can change my major into computer science before signing up into any art history related classes?

I’m pretty sure that until you have completed the prerequisites for Computer Science, they will not consider you.

HeyMrAlvaro - If you want to attend FSU and major in Computer Science, that is definitely possible.

This is my first semester at FSU as a transfer student, and about two weeks into classes I had a major change of heart about my major. Although I am missing a couple prerequisites, I was able to work out a plan with my advisor and apply for the change of major.

Here is my advice:

When you go to transfer orientation, your Art History advisor will meet with you in a group with the rest of the art history majors. She/he will give you all their general suggestions for course registration. She/he will tell you what you HAVE to take in Spring to stay on track for your major. However, when you go to actually register, you do this all on your own and can register for whatever classes you want, provided you have the prerequisites. If you don’t take the classes you needed to stay on track, you will have a hold placed on your registration. You can easily get this hold removed by speaking with your advisor. She/he will suggest you take the courses you failed to take during your first semester to stay on track during your second semester at FSU. If at the end of your second semester at FSU you are still off track, you will be asked to change your major.

In your case, you have the advantage of having a summer semester between your first and second semester, as they do not count the summer semester when determining if you are on track. The summer would be a great time for you to finish any remaining prerequisites for computer science and transfer over before it ever gets to the point of them asking you to. But, if you needed to take that long, theoretically you could.

You really need to take a look at the prerequisites for the computer science major, as well as the map for the degree to see what they want you to complete during each semester. If you transfer into the major during your second semester at FSU, you would be in term 6, which means you need to complete all the milestones for term 6 and every term before it. See the following link: [The Florida State University](http://www.academic-guide.fsu.edu/Maps/MapBScompsci.html)
Keep that in mind when planning your schedule.

I have found the advisors to be extremely helpful. Once you get here, they will do everything they can to help you meet your goals. If you cannot get up to speed with the computer science major by the end of Fall 2013, I would suggest either not attending FSU, or entertaining the idea of double majoring in art history and computer science so you can stay on track with the art history degree and avoid any registration holds or missed milestones.

I should also mention that even if you only get the computer science major, that is a fairly large major, and you should plan on staying at FSU longer than two academic years to finish the prerequisites and complete the major in its entirety.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

@HeyMrAlvaro
Are you going to double major then?
I’m assuming all you have left for the Art History major are 2 World AH courses and 3 upper level (3000/4000 level) AH courses and then the Seminar?
I’m minoring in Art History, so I only need a total of 5 AH courses, so far I’m liking my AH classes at FSU.

GPA- 3.72( without prerequisites such as development math-GPA is 4.0)
Academic accomplishments- honor society and member of honors college
College- Florida Community College
Ethnicity- Latino
Gender- Male
Intended major- Pre-Law and Business Administration

I currently have 35 credits from my community college after the fall 2012 semester ends. I am taking 6 courses next semester to get my credits to 52 at the end of spring with only 8 more until I receive my associates. Should I apply after spring or apply after fall finishes? Is the school going to think I am taking to many classes or is this normal?

No offense but Pre-Law is such a waste of time especially if you plan to actually go to Law School. There are many other majors that can prepare you on SO MANY levels for law school such as History, Political Science, Philosophy, Art History and so on. My brother (who was a Philosophy/Classics major) is currently attending Law School and all the Pre-Law kids aren’t cutting it because they just aren’t actually prepared for the actual amount of work, reading and analyzing that is expected in Law School.

About taking too many classes, I had 106 accepted credits upon entering FSU as a transfer student from a community college so no they will not care if you take too many classes as long as you take your pre-req’s and all that. I would apply after Fall finishes so at least they can look at your Fall grades when evaluating your transcripts. If they want to see you Spring grades they will request that from you if they need them before accepting you, but I’m sure they will decide prior to looking at your final Spring grades. I received my acceptance before sending my final spring grades. They did need them to make sure I passed and earned my AA though.

If you are thinking about Computer Science, be sure to keep a light schedule when you take Discrete Math. That class can be pretty time-consuming.

Thanks for the tip amandaaven82. Really helpful and just the answer I was looking for. To answer papertiger87’s question, I’m going to try to focus on computer science since it’s what I really wanted to major in and I’m more interested and involved in that field than art history.

^True might as well stick with what you enjoy and invested more time in. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your time at FSU!

You’re very welcome. Glad to help. I’m sure you’ll be happy with your decision. I’ve heard from current students that they really like the Computer Science department and have found many opportunities. Best of luck to you.

Hey guys, I am an out of state(Maryland) Upper level transfer student I was wondering if you guys could give me an opinion on my chances. My application is still under review as I have to go in November and talk with an admissions officer about my credits. I went to community college, then to a state 4 year school (Salisbury University) then back to community college in Maryland. I will be getting my associates in December. I am unique because although I am getting my AS Degree in Business Administration for the Fall, I have only been in college for a year and a half.

Major: Information Technology (not a limited access school)
GPA: 3.266 at current institution, 3.020 combined with the 4 year university. (So I meet that requirement)
Credits:64, but I will be missing three of the pre req classes (philosophy, psychology, and some programming class, but I talked to an advisor in the IT school and he said I could take them in the spring.)
Not Instate

I need to go to FSU because when I was a child my grandmother purchased the Florida Prepaid plan for me, so I get instate tuition for any Florida School, even if I transfer out of state. I can’t afford to go to a 4 year school in Maryland. My parents also just moved to North West Florida so I would like to be closer to them. Thanks for your time.

Philosophy and Psychology are prereqs for Information Technology?

@Sweetheartcroc Sadly they are the liberal studies I HAVE to take… shame I have better ones that were required by my A.S. degree (Accounting Principles I and II)

Prerequisite Coursework: 24 hours
Information Technology majors must complete the following with a grade of C- or higher: Some prerequisite coursework may also be used to satisfy Liberal Studies/general education requirements.

Update: I’m still completing my math courses this fall at my community college. I was told by admissions to send my final college transcript once I complete my math courses. My concern is that since the spring deadline passed does admissions to enroll people after a student has completed their courses?

If you get accepted for Spring you send your final transcripts. They won’t boot you out of the Spring courses you’ll be enrolled in. As long as they receive them in a few weeks after the Spring term has started it’s fine.
Is that what you were asking?
