Further Review Required

I forgot to mention, when your app is ready to be viewed and decided upon (all your docs are in) your status will go back to “Ready for Review” and then to the decision after that.

^ That’s awesome info, thanks. They’ve had mine for about a week so if they don’t tell me within the next I’ll definitely call and see what’s up. It says they received everything they needed to though.

agreed, excellent post, lots of people asking about this

Ok, today a new requirement just appeared:
“Mid term 2nd semester grades”

My school only gives grades and prints transcripts at the end of 1st semester and the end of the school year… Problem?

Should I call their admissions office? I have heard how tough it was to get ahold of them though…

yes, call them

My application went today from Ready for Review to Further Review Required. It says that I’m missing

“Summary of Activities” (January to August 2010)

I graduated in December (that’s the norm in my country) so they are probably asking me what I will be doing from now until university starts.

Does anyone know how this Summary should be? Should I just print a paper listing my plans or send them an email with the information?

They also asked me for my diploma, so do I send them a color-copy? Do I need to translate it (it’s in Spanish)

I already sent them an email asking about this but some insight would help me sleep at night xD

^ This is what is on McGill’s website, I don’t know if this helps =/

[Applicants from High Schools Outside Canada and the U.S.A.](http://www.mcgill.ca/applying/undergrad2010-11/overseas/#OTHER_INTERNATIONAL)

Documentation

You must arrange for your school to send McGill University an official transcript of your complete high school record to date. Transcripts should show interim grades for the current year for courses in progress.

If you have completed Advanced Level, Advanced Subsidiary, CAPE, Ordinary Level, GCSE, HKCEE, or CSEC, you must arrange for your school to forward a certified photocopy of the certificate(s) and/or Candidate Statement(s) of Results to McGill.

If you will be writing, or have already written, Advanced Level, Advanced Subsidiary, or CAPE examinations, you or your school must clearly indicate the name of the Examination Board(s) through which your examination will be, or were, taken, the subject specification numbers, and the particular modules or units taken towards these qualifications (e.g., Edexcel GCE Advanced Level Mathematics 9371 with modules CM1, 2, 3, 4, M1, 2).

If you are completing the International Baccalaureate Diploma program, you must arrange for predicted IB results to be sent directly by your school to McGill.

Below that it has specific country requirements.

I’m not sure about the summary of activities, but I’m pretty sure you don’t have to translate a diploma if you’re an international applicant.

I sent them an email specifically asking about it so I’ll hear on Monday hopefully.
Still I also arranged for the translation in case it is needed. It’s too hard to make things quick since I live in a little town -.- So I’m doing preparations ahead of time.

So hard being international =p

^ I know what you feel like. I applied to schools in the UK, France & of course Canada (though it’s easier applying US than elsewhere internationally). I hope everything works out for you!

So Minerva says they’ve received my 3rd quarter grades…over a month before my school’s 3rd quarter is even over. This is getting increasingly bizarre. I did e-mail them about the original no-third-quarter-grades problem, though I haven’t gotten a response. Maybe the changed status on Minerva is their response?

Well, I hope that it isn’t a problem and I get my decision (acceptance??) soon!

I just called McGill because I have had “further review required” as my application status since forever. After misunderstanding my question as being that I just couldn’t wait for my decision to be released (and laughing at me), she understood that I was just trying to ask her if it meant that I was missing something. ( I think they are really biased against Americans). Anyway, she just said that this status didn’t mean you were missing something. It just meant that you were around the cutoff, so it would take a little longer to make a decision. Not so good news for me I guess, but McGill was a reach anyway so we’ll see how it goes. By the way, my stats are above their mininum, but my ACT score is unfortunately around average while my GPA is fantastic.

McGill admissions is not biased against Americans. Canadians are more laid back regarding university admissions than Americans. There is not so much anxiety among Canadian applicants. I think that the person you spoke to was just amused by the eagerness shown by American applicants. Yours was probably the 10th call she took today from an American.

I admit though that the on line status notifications could be made clearer. When I applied to McGill in 1995, I just waited for the decision to arrive in the mail (snail mail). That was in the days B.I. (before internet)!
