Questions:

  1. What is a good SAT score if I want to get DA into UW CSE?
  2. What AP classes would boost my chance into CSE?
  3. Is SAT2 necessary?

The College’s website recently included some guidance on the subject:

“For 2017, fewer than 3% of UW freshman applicants who listed Computer Science or Computer Engineering as their first-choice major were offered Direct Admission; these students had an average unweighted GPA of 3.97; average test scores of ACT 34, SAT Math 764, and SAT Verbal 758; took a rigorous high school curriculum; provided evidence of meaningful extracurricular activities; submitted strong personal statements; and were mostly Washington residents.”

Also:

“The best academic preparation for computer science and engineering is taking the most rigorough curriculum offered at your high school. This includes advanced classes if available (Honors, AP, IB, etc.), especially in English, math, and science. Most students selected for DA have taken science and math every year of high school, and most have taken calculus. It is not necessary to take computer programming in high school, or to have computer-related work experience. However, if you have access to CS opportunities, we encourage you to take them!”
