I’m not sure where I should list on CommonApp that I’m currently taking a gap year.
I see two possibilities:
1.) I list it under additional information (at the end of the writing) and briefly explain why and what I’m doing during my gap year (anything else I should mention?)
2.) I list it under “education interruption” as “did/will take a gap year”. (Please indicate if your progression through secondary school was or will be delayed or interrupted in any way. )
However, I don’t see my gap year as an interruption since I’ve already graduated and had no interruption during my secondary school.
I am also on a gap year. Do not list it as an education interruption, that is referring to a gap year during high school. You can put it under additional information if you want to list it. I was considering not even addressing it but then I realized that would probably cause some confusion. So option 1, additional information.
@cappex thanks. I’ll definitely list it under additional information.
If I were you, I’d list it. As long as you didn’t just sit around, schools can even see it as something that works in your favor. (You’re more mature, you gained some real work experience etc.)
Our son listed his gap year under “educational interruption” and took the opportunity to write a separate essay about it. I’m still not sure if that was the right or wrong place to list it, but it didn’t seem to hurt anything as he got into all of his target schools.
