gap year/year off questions

i'm taking a gap year and applying using the common app 2008-2009 and have few questions:

1) for current year courses, do i list the courses that I took my senior year?
2) is it bad to have teacher recs from the same teachers (if i'm applying to a school that i've applied before fyi. got waitlisted, but didnt take anyone from the waitlist)?
3) what happens to the school forms (secondary school report, mid year report, final report)? does my old high school re-do them?
4) under academics, there is a secondary education interruption section. does gap year count as one of those options listed?

*i've put in the common app question thread, but no one seemed to notice it so i've made a new one....

pls help me out...applying early need response pretty soon...thank you

Pick up the telephone. Call the admissions office(s) at the school(s) you are interested in, and ASK THEM IN PERSON. Tell them that you are taking a gap year at present, and that you would like to know whether you should use the Common Application, and how you should report your grades, etc.

This is not rocket science. They have dealt with applicants like you before.

Now, if you are in a remote location where it is extremely challenging for you to place phone calls (but where you can send emails), then the way to contact them would be by email.

Good Luck!

I recommend that you only use the same teachers if you had them in your senior year and they can add something new to the letters they already wrote. It is likely that the college will have your old application still in its files and will put the two together when your new application is reviewed. Whatever you do, don't use the same essay that you did when you applied originally. Of course, you can ask when you call if your original materials are still available and will be used. In my day in an admissions office, they certainly were (most commonly for transfer applicants who had applied previously).

This is confusing. I thought you applied senior year, and ask the colleges you got accepted to if you could have a gap year. That's what my friend did. He got into Harvard haha

thank you so much everyone....but im not in a situation to call anyone at the moment...moved to a new house recently and we dont have phone service XD...but i'll definitely give them a call when i get it :)

HYR - There are many reasons for taking a gap year, and many ways to arrange one. What your pal did is defer enrollment. Others take a year (or more) after HS to work, travel, or do something interesting, and then apply to college. Some people apply to colleges like mad in HS, don't get into schools they like (or don't get enough financial aid), then take a gap year while reconsidering which schools to apply to. Sometimes those students come up with a whole new list of colleges, and sometimes they apply to the same ones all over again.

^ Yeah, I understand. But he deferred his enrollment to take a gap year. lol
I would think it would be easier to apply to colleges while still in high school, but I guess if you don't get enough money/get into the right schools it would make sense.

that's what happened to me...the financial package didn't work out...so i'm looking at other options..:)
