Garcia Mrsec science research program

There doesn't seem like there's a thread or posts for Garcia this year so I made a thread.

My question is, what research topics do they offer? Looking at some past projects seems like they focus on materials science topics with quite a bit of biology and a little chemistry. While I am interested in materials science my main interest is actually computer science, any chance I could do computer science or computer engineering research at Garcia? Though looking at it now it's kinda unlikely. What other topics outside of materials science have people done? Finally, in the essays you can state which field you want to do research in, but once you are in the program how do you choose what field of science you will be researching in? (or they choose for you?)
If any Garcia alumni could respond to this, that would be great.

Also, if any of the alumni could possibly compare their experience to what you heard from any Simons mentees (I think they dormed in the same area, so you might have met some), that would be great!

bump? bump.

If you want a computer science summer program, google offers one for high school seniors. [Google in Education](<a href=“Build your future with Google”>Build your future with Google)

They may also offer another one that isn’t exclusively for graduating seniors, but I’m not sure.

How prestigious and selective is this summer program? I got accepted but I don’t know how important that is. Did anyone else get accepted? If so, what were your stats/profile? Thanks!:)
