<p>garcia’s program is very very reputable, one of the most selective research programs around. if you got accepted, go for it! it’s one of the most competitive to get into and you can be sure to gain valuable contacts for further scientific research there.</p>

<p>i myself didn’t go to garcia, but one of my closest friends applied out of state and did and from what i’ve heard, it’s an absolutely amazing opportunity. i think one of the stats floating around is that around 10% of intel sts finalists went to garcia, so that gives you some sort of a gauge for just how competitive the program is. </p>
<p>i’ve heard that the polymer science department under rafailovich (where he worked) is outstanding. she has a LOT of experience working with high school students on research projects and for the most part has been pretty much successful given the number of STS finalists she churns out each summer…</p>
