Rip my comment cut off. As i was saying. Essays dont really matter unless it really comes down to it. I also dont think emailing them will help since next year’s applicant pool will be different and the standards may change. If you do get rejected, just try to improve overall. (Also, the essay percentage should be essays/recs) @BackOfTheBook
In case one of you in state ppl is admitted, I highly recommend you dorm if you don’t have financial difficulties. You make A LOT MORE friends. Simons and Independant scholars all dorm together with the Garcia scholars and it is a lot of fun. Weekend activities are lit too. In all honestly I remember very few commuters but made everlasting friendship with the ppl who lived in dorm.
When you say, SAT/ACT is that important, im assuming you mean a 36 does not guarantee you(>75%) acceptance…
Also, does being out of state severely reduce your chances? @jsoksDNA
@User19205234
I don’t think any single particular standardized exam can guarantee an acceptance. A perfect ACT or SAT without any AP or IB and EC may very well be rejected.
Well, assume like 35-36 ACT / 1560-1600 SAT and a solid GPA (Weighted like 4.3??). @Kurisutina
Honestly, this is super unpredictable. It will be interesting to see who gets in.
actually they first check cc to weed out overenthusiastic nuts
@Contravention lmao
@Contravention hahahahaha. It does have its benefits tho ; )
Its hard to tell acceptance chances by standardized tests and GPA alone. Both are very important but when everyone has a near perfect SAT score and GPA, they become a standard @User19205234
@jsoksDNA exactly why having those scores makes it impossible to tell if you stand a chance at getting in. I guess EC’s make the difference. As far as I could tell, it seems like essays practically mean nothing
when I applied:
•CA
•4.86 wGPA
•Bio 5 / Human Geo 4 / Calc AB 5
•CS 5 / ES 4 / Calc BC 5 / Physics C: Mech 5 / Physics 1 5
•SAT 1580
•ACT 35
ECs were garbo tbh, very few things & no national awards
Waitlisted --> accepted, I attribute this to God Antonio
Just go to sleep or think about other things
Or buy a fidget spinner on amazon, those are fun for people with a lot of free time
Wtf how do u even have a 4.86 w gpa
@User19205234
Majority of people last year had those stats which means you are in the ballpark. Nothing will guarantee you honestly unless you have something noticeable like participating in ISEF or publishing a paper.
My school is next to a community college so they have a thing going on where you can take a lot of classes there & they’re weighted
I took a lot of 2nd year physics classes + a lot of maths like calc 3 and linear algebra through them (and anthropology 101 with a hot teacher and french 101 with a nutty psycho)
This’ll probably help me down the line if I go to a UC, since some of them are transferrable
But during high school the most direct benefit was boosting my gpa to astronomical levels
Currently valedicktorian, 4.90
7.0 gpa or bust
Just got in! I am so happy. I got bad test score (1490 PSAT) but I am in. Yay. Looking forward to meeting you all!
@smileythunder did you just get the email? I still havent received them.
Yeah! Just got it three minutes ago.
These were my stats
1490 Psat
800 math 2
4.7 wgpa

Wow, congrats! I wonder if they sent out all the acceptances or doing them 1by 1
didn’t get one yet…its probably one by one
