but i never got it....i called and thats when they said something about it, but the hsf lady told me before the deadline that my stuff was all complete, so i dont know....when did you get your notification in the mail?? i sent all my stuff via fax on the 21 of april

Sounds to me like you may already be a winner - 'specially since Portlander had to do the same thing. --Heres hopin for you!!

I just got notified Friday - and I think all my stuff finally got there on the 19th- which sounds like you were just a few days behind me -which sounds like it could be any day now!--Did you call someone regarding the new sheet?? If not, DO - I know HSF is in CA - so I would call about 10 our time, maybe even 11 if you can.

OH....so you fill that out AFTER you win???? Hmmm I GOTTA check the mail today!!!!!

Hey - to all you who received your notice - make sure you go to the site referred to in your letter and go to Chat School - I started a thread "Looking for CCers" - lets hook up in there so we can meet at the conference!

Good idea. I'll drop you a line right now.

MDTracie - I was reading back through this thread - werent you the one that said you received notice that you were a finalist but that you hadnt even completed the application? If so, maybe that's the information they're missing?? Did you get it worked out?

Well I didn't complete some of the essays at the end. Everything else I filled out completely.....so since I haven't gotten notification yet, is that good or bad??

hey i just got my letter today! so excited!

i'm kind of confused as to what gmsp is covering, though. in the student handbook someplace it says "tuition, room and board, books, fees, and/or living expenses." but my award only covered the self-help portion in my financial aid package.

any enlightenment?

I am in california, but i have yet to hear from GMS, i am also under NFS. I sent in my material in april 13. What are my chances that i still may get this scholarship?

ariadne09 hang in there, just call them to check about your award.

ariadne09 - they do only cover Self Help (in most cases). They only cover that other expenses if you don't get grants from the schools. If you received $30,000 in loans, then they would cover that; otherwise, it is just Self-Help

ariadne09 - how much did you get covered, if you don't mind me asking? I'm just trying to get an idea of what I might get covered... are you attending a public or private uni?

And yes, I sent in my stuff during the first full week of April and am still waiting for a reply. I am starting to get worried. (Un)Forunately, there are still some APs to keep me busy.

i got about $4000 covered, which was the only part of my package that was job/loan. i'm going to a private university. i guess we'll still have to cover the family contribution...i'm not complaining though, it's nice to not have to worry about that $4000!

hang in there, i bet they're still sending out letters!

What is your EFC, if you don't mind me asking again...? I am curious to see how mine compares to others in Gates.

well, most of the colleges gave my parents a little over 4000 to cover, and i had about 2000. but i talked to the college i'm going to be attending next year, and they lowered it for me. mwahah. so my parents' contribution is 1500, and i'm at 1850.

where are you planning on going to school?

I am definitely procrasinating by attempting to gain some foothold on these financial aid policies. I will be attending Swarthmore College next year, and their policy is the first $500 plus the 50% of the remaining money goes into reducing self-help (loans, work study). Thus the other 50% of the remaining money goes to reducing the school grant.

While I am thrilled to be attending a great college for relatively nothing of 40k, I am still trying to find scholarships to weasel out of paying the EFC, an action which private colleges don't like. My EFC isn't high at all, but considering I only have what I earn over the summer to tide me over, I think being a greedy brat is smart and not selfish here. I am deathly hoping for Gates to take care of the loan at 2,625 and work study at 1,600. That and it covers ALL four years... sob ;-) I am bored of waiting for mail.

ariadne09 - Harvard started a program this year that gave all kids with family incomes of 40k or less a full-ride. Forgive my assumptions, but given that you got a pell grant and are eligible for Gates, don't you qualify for the full-ride-ness?

Hey whats going on ppl. Im from San Antonio also mdtracie. I talked to the Gates lady yesterday because I still had not recieved a letter, and she told me that they all are scheduled to go out on or before the 10th of May. Also, when I spoke to the people they said that most people dont find out until early to mid May. So for those of you who have not recieved any more letters (like me) they are coming soon. Don't give up your hopes. My friend got it last year and he said that everyone he knew of who made it to the second round got the scholarship so keep your head up everyone.

Ack! A whole week. sob again. ;-) Well, I guess I should study instead of worrying...

im pretty sure at this point(second stage) they just confirm your financial stuff...
