Gates Millenium - 2005-2006

Yay, I got it today

Question: Does anyone know how to get their parent contribution covered under the scholarship as well?

GATES doesn't pay for parent or student contribution.

do they buy u a laptop thougH?

i don't think they buy you a laptop.

nana, how much did you get covered?

i wish......(about them buying us a laptop)

I Got It! Yess!

what is the GMS Leadership Conference?

Basically, a big conference for all the Gates scholars. Happens every year, apparently. They pay for travel fare. If you got the letter, I'm surprised it's not included in there somewhere.

portlander, not to sound like an annoying broken record, but how much did you get covered, if you don't mind me asking?

oh no problem. I'm getting $5,500. MIT was very generous with scholarships/grants so I didn't need too much. =)

do you know where the conference will be held? this is so awesome!!!

No idea where conference is. Hopefully, some of you who have gotten the actual grant figures & info packet can answer that. I really think it would be included in the package...

Anyways, portlander, the 5,500k is for loans & self help? Do you mind if I ask you how much your EFC is? I feel like I am desperately interrogating everybody.

Congras for getting the it. I live in sacramento and i have not received mine yet. what is going on? i hope i get it on monday

Supposedly they will go out on or before May 10th. That means May 10th plus three business days for mail = Friday of next week, or two Mondays from now. Yep... I'll just sit here and wait and pretend to read my ap prep books until then...

I got 5,500 covered.
but my parents still have 6000 left to pay. (Stanford University)

CONGRATS GUYS!!!! Can't wait to see you all. We all have to coordinate wardrobes or something so we can recognize each other.

=)

gphoenix-my parents will have to pay $2400...and I have to come up with approx. $900. I have those covered by outside scholarships, though! The $5,500 was just self-help. MIT didn't include any loans or anything...thank goodness! I hope they notify you soon!

I can't wait to meet everyone as well! Good idea, Lunknot! Let's coordinate wardrobes...hahaha

I got it! :D

For people in the east, the conference will be in Chantilly, VA. West, it'll be LA. I read something on the site about how Bill himself will be there or was there last year, anyway. Pretty awesome stuff.

yay nana, i'll be at stanford too. my EFC is nothing, but I have to pay 1800 for the student contribution. 1800 a year for Stanford isn't so bad at all.

sigh I feel left out.

Dani, what did you get covered?

wht is that?? gates millenium? y i never heard of that?....... i wanna cry

gphoenix - Everything but EFC was covered.

You'll get your letter...another person from my school got hers about a week ago, and I was panicking, but it didn't mean anything. I still got mine. :)
