I am a junior in high school and I am starting to get ready to apply to colleges. I am an openly gay male and I am seeking a college near a big city (New York City) because big cities tend to have larger gay communities. I was wondering what the gay community was like at Fordham. Is there a big or small gay population at the university? Are students open-minded and accepting of other gay students? Since this is a religious institution, does it have any affect on peoples perspectives of homosexuality? Any responses would be great. Thanks!

I can only speak for the Lincoln Center campus, since I don’t know what the LGBT life is like at Rose Hill. But, at LC we are VERY gay friendly. A large population of our school identifies as LGBT, so everyone is pretty much accepting and open minded about the whole thing. We also have a great GSA sort of club called Rainbow Alliance that does awesome queer-oriented programming and awareness events, and there is the Office of Multicultural Affairs now includes LGBT issues in their sustained dialogues and such. So, being queer at Fordham Lincoln Center is a nonissue, really. Rose Hill however, I do not know about.

Thank you so much I appreciate you taking time and writing a response. Sadly, I believe if I attended Fordham, I would want to live on the Rose Hill Campus so it does not help all that much. Thanks though!

I do not know any straight people at Lincoln Center. It’s as gay as a rainbow.

^^^Interesting that you think that bc only 1 of the 9 male freshman Theatre majors is gay challenging that stereotype on more than one level. But since this OP is interested in RH, impressions about the gay community at LC are not that helpful anyway.

I also disagree with that. I’m a straight ally who is attending Fordham LC next year.
