Gay community at LMU

I am a junior in high school and I am starting to get ready to apply to colleges. I am an openly gay male and I am seeking a college near a big city (Los Angeles) because big cities tend to have larger gay communities. I was wondering what the gay community was like at LMU. Is there a big or small gay population at the university? Are students open-minded and accepting of other gay students? Since this is a religious institution, does it have any affect on peoples perspectives of homosexuality? Any responses would be great. Thanks!

I have a friend who was a dance major for a while and she told me there were open gay relationships between some of the dance boys. I know thats not all that helpful but it seems( at least in the dance program) that people are decently accepting. And on the religious part I dont think it really plays a big role in most of the students and i know you are only required to take one class about religion

Thanks for the response. It does help me a little and it sounds like students probably don’t care whether another student is gay or not. I was wondering if the city of Los Angeles had a lot of places for gay people to go and hang around and if there is a big gay population in the city? If anyone can answer that question and/or my first question that would be great. Thanks!

You can find a lot of gay hang outs but you usually have to be 21+. There is a big gay population in L.A.

Thanks! Any other opinions?

More opinions would really help!

My D is a junior at LMU and is very involved in the GSA (I still call it the Gay-Straight Alliance, but I think it’s been renamed the Gender & Sexuality Alliance or something like that). The institution was not that supportive of a gay community in years past, but it’s come a long way in the last few years; this year they established a permanent student center for the LGBT community with a full-time staff member. The GSA is not huge but is very active and lively. I’m sure she’d be happy to talk to you; PM me if you want me to connect you.
