wow thats amazing... CONGRATULATIONS

when was your letter postmarked?????

Are you a URM by any chance saxfreq or bohemian?

Hey guys, sorry for not answering sooner. I went out soon after I posted and just got home. To answer some of your questions...

The package was postmarked March 15th. It contained a two-page letter, which basically talked about how great and worthy of consideration Penn is. It said that a select group of applicants were being sent letters because of "impressive accomplishments to date." Sounds like a pretty standard likely letter to me. Mine also had a handwritten note, which I thought was a nice touch, even though the note didn't say anything that was speicific to me, meaning it was also probably standard fair. There was also, as I said before, a few pamplets: one about academic programs, one about career opportunities, and one about research.

I'm not an URM or a recruited athlete, nor did I have really cool extracurriculars. I think my grades and standardized test scores got me in, which they say is impossible these days, but I think it's working for me so far in college admissions. I had a 1530 SAT, 800s in SAT IIs, and I'm second in my class. My ECs aren't anything special, though I do have leadership positions. My recommendation letters basically reflected that I'm a "bright, well-rounded kid," as the saying goes. I applied as an undecided major, but I mentioned an interest in English, Linguistics, and Communications in my "Why Penn?" essay.

As for whether or not I will go, I'm not sure yet. Penn is [arguably] the most selective school I applied to (making the likely letter thing all the more...surreal), but I want to pick the college that I think is the best fit. Finances are also a concern. So we'll see.

Thanks for the answer bohemianrhapsody. So if its not URM/athletics-specific, I guess I have a chance. I'll wait and see.

Sax!!
How did you get in to Yale and Harvard early????? Harvard is single-choice EA, there is no way you can apply to both Harvard and Yale early????

From New Jersey.. really hoping for a letter... Penn is my FIRST CHOICE - I think I would have a heart attack if I checked the mail tomorrow and found a letter there from Penn.... lol not really counting on it though

You've got a point there the9889.

He didn't apply to both Harvard and Yale early. He applied to Harvard early and recieved a likely letter from Yale.

woah!!........likely letters from Penn....
do they send to internationals as well??
and if one does not receive, there is still chance rite??

still have a lingering sadness of not getting mit :o

I think Saxfreq is an URM, I remember her/him from Harvard EA.

This looks like it's Arts & Sciences exlusive. Anyone applying to Wharton get anything?

Only two so far? Have to admit thats a little odd.

Well I applied to Engineering and Wharton (M&T Program) and haven't recieved anything. It sounds like its just for Arts and Sciences, if thats the only people that have recieved them

I'm finding this difficult to believe that only two would post. But then again, the Cornell letters about Dean's Scholars hardly made a splash in the Cornell forums. Time will tell.

Him. I'm a guy.
Yes, I'm a URM. But no, I did not specify my race on my application. No, I'm not a recruited athlete.

No, I did not get into both Harvard and Yale early. I got into Harvard early action and recieved a likely from Yale about a month ago and from Penn earlier this week. ;-) Guess I should have clarified, sorry.

Hey Sax,
congrats--do you think they didnt know at all? What about your interviewers?

saxfreq: I can't help saying that i envy you...!!...but congratulations all the same...i bet you deserve every bit of it...you have some really hard decisions to make...congrats and good luck !!

I'm sure these posters did get the letters because my s came home from school yesterday and said someone he knew had gotten one. We're in the metro Boston area.
Congratulations!

anyone applying to wharton get one yet?
