General Dorm Security

Just wondering about experiences with general dorm security. Was surprised & pleased to see safes in the closets at Pardee, but don't believe they are in other dorm rooms. How helpful is it to have security cable for laptop? How careful to you have to be of your stuff when taking a shower?

Can you go from one lounge in South Area to the others, or do you need someone living in one of the other dorms to let you in with their card? Pardee doesn't have a game room like those in Marks & Trojan & its lounge is small & very basic, tho it does have the customer service center.

Just make sure your son/his roommate lock the door whenever necessary. Unfortunately, my roommate hasn't been too good about that. Even though your son might know everybody in his floor, that doesn't mean someone won't steal anything if a door is unlocked/wide open. I'm not too sure how helpful it is to have a security cable (do you mean laptop/notebook lock?) for a laptop. I'm sure it would discourage some people from stealing it, but I think it's only a matter of time before someone cracks it if someone does steal it. If I remember correctly, each housing building requires a USCard swiped by a person of that specific residence. For example, someone who lives in Trojan Hall cannot gain access to Fluor Tower by swiping their card. What people do is usually wait until people of that residence are around. I hope other people can correct me if I'm wrong about anything.
