General Education requirements?

I found out over the weekend that I was accepted to the screenwriting BFA (yay!), and although I'm not yet 100% committed to attending USC I'm pretty sure I'll be relocating to inner LA come fall. Since I got my letter, I've been finding it far more interesting to plan my potential first-semester schedule than to work on my homework, and that's made me curious about the core curriculum.

I know there's a list on the website and in the catalogue of the courses that fulfill the general education requirements. I was curious, however, as to whether it's possible for other classes that are not on the list to count toward your GE credits--for example, EALC 429 Gender In Korean Film And Literature satisfying Category II. If not, I'm sure I can find courses on the list that interest me as well, but I just wanted to get a better idea of exactly how much flexibility there is within the core.

Off-topic, but: you were actually accepted to SCA? I think you’re the first one on here who was! Huge congrats! Mind posting your info on http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/854601-official-school-cinematic-arts-2014-applicants-results-2.html#post1064039237</a> ?

The only classes acceptable for your General Education requirements are listed on the Course Catalog GE page. [USC Catalogue: Undergraduate Education: USC Core : General Education Course Lists](http://www.usc.edu/dept/publications/cat2009/undergraduate/usc_core_general.html)

Cool! I figured as such, but I just wanted to check. Thanks for letting me know.

You can also complete most of your gen ed requirements by doing the TO curriculum. Although the gen ed requirements can appear daunting, they are very doable within the first three semesters, still leaving time for film courses.

make sure you double dip your diversity requirement with another GE, probably from category 1 or 2. classes that fulfill both reqs will be designated with a “gm” after the course number.

^ Yeah, double dip wherever you can. My diversity also counts as an upper-division elective for my major. Both of my TO theme courses counted as requirements for my major (one lower-division, one upper). With TO, you can finish all GEs by the end of sophomore year including the upper-division writing requirement.

Because of the double-dipping and a full year of AP credit, I have enough room in my schedule that I can easily do a minor and study abroad for a full year.

You can always petition, but I wouldn’t count on it. Entirely possible, though.
