Geometry as a Junior...

I was forced into a develpmental math course Freshman year because my standardized test scores in 8th grade weren't so great. I've improved greatly since then, but now I'm back a year in math. Is there anyway I could get back on track math wise? Maybe take a summer course in Alg. II? Since it doesn't look good when you're taking Algbera II as a Senior when people are taking Calculus as Juniors...

Thanks for the help.

There's many online courses if you have the time. Or you can try summer school.

Do you know if a school will give credit for taking an online course? Or do I have to take that up with my guidence counselor?

Summer school at local community college or something. I did geometry at Berkeley and got credit for it.

I'm in the same situation. I know U Missouri has a program for high school kids to do distance learning. You do it at your own pace, so you could probably finish it over the summer if you were motivated enough. That's probably your best bet.

"Do you know if a school will give credit for taking an online course? Or do I have to take that up with my guidence counselor?"

Each high school has a different way of awarding credit for distance ed courses. Check with your counselor or your registrar to see how they award credit. My school, for example, won't award any honors credit for courses not taken on campus and will only accept credit from certain colleges (a local CC + 2 state universities)

can you take algebra II at a community college while u take geometry at school and then maybe over the summer take an intensive trig class for school credit?? by your senior year, you can take calculus. or maybe you'll need to take precalculus, but ppl i heard do follow this sequence:

9th: algebra
10th: geometry
11th: trigonometry
12th: calculus

good luck

Definitely try to catch up. That makes a big difference in your choices for future studies. I like ALEKS

http://www.aleks.com

as an online course. You can try it out for free for forty-eight hours an UNLIMITED number of times, as I learned from a local friend who phoned the company. If you like it, then you can decide if you'd like to pay for it and get cumulative records of your progress.

Good luck in your math studies.

Take an assessment test at a CC; some only test Alg1 stuff to recommend to Alg2 (due to sequence difference). If you get enough score, you will qualify to take Alg2 (usu. called Intermediate Alg or College Alg). Do this very quickly because the deadline (to add) for spring summer is usually around jan 31st.

you can still get to calc1 or 2 before college if you take math class at a cc every semester...

Thanks for the help. I have a guidence appointment set up to discuss my possibilites. I also need to find out how much a course in a CC would cost...eh.
