George Washington RD 2020

hi! I’m from Los Angeles and I’m also waiting on decisions. I received a LL in the mail a few weeks ago but it really depends on the amount of aid I get and if I am accepted into the honors program.

just a random question what majors/schools did you apply for at GW? I applied as a com major at CAS but I hope to transfer into journalism sophomore year

I applied for international affairs at Elliott School with political science at CAS as my second choice major. GW and Tufts are the only two schools I’m waiting to hear back from which is pretty nerve-wracking! I’ll need a lot of merit money to make GW work which I don’t think I’ll get :frowning: but even still we will see.

Merit aid is a huge deciding factor for me as well. Being unable to afford college sucks.

Does anyone know what is the highest Merit Scholarship GWU has given this year? Or in general how much is it?

Looking through past threads I’ve seen a range from $10k to (very rarely) $30k. Mostly I’ve seen $15 and $20 but the $5k increments are all there

Do you think not applying to Honors program ruins my chances? I’m worried they won’t think I would attend (2200 SAT, 97.5 GPA) but I did show interest otherwise. I wish I had applied now, I didn’t at the time because I didn’t think GW would end up so high on my list.

Just wondering, is it fairly easy to switch your major from what you marked on your common app as your intended major? I put down Women’s Studies but I’m also very interested in Politics and might want to switch, and minor in women’s studies or something like that.

@Tarahific I think it is, are those majors in the same school? Even if they’re not in the same school, I’m sure you can transfer as a sophomore (after you get all your core credits). I was going to apply to the journalism school but the acceptance rate is lower, and it’s also possible to apply as a sophomore so I’m just going to do that if I go. I’m sure that’s the case for all the other schools!

I applied for the CAS and plan to major in Biological Anthropology! Hopefully I’ll be accepted since not many people major in that area…

Is the acceptance rate lower for the School of Media & Public Affairs? @geiseln I didn’t know that, that’s interesting. I’m from CT and applied as a Political Communication major. I’m still waiting on 7 schools this week 8-X

@matildak6 I didn’t look at exact percentages but I looked at the number of undergraduates in the school and it’s a fairly small number… plus the application required an additional essay and I really didn’t have the time due to other college apps. I’m only waiting on GW and NYU but the other two schools I got into aren’t my favorites

My D applied for International Affairs- Elliott School (University Honors Program). Most of the classes for the University Honors Program are at Mount Vernon but there’s a shuttle between Mount Vernon and Foggy Bottom so she can room at Foggy Bottom.

Does anyone know if we’ll be able to see our financial aid information on the portal if we’re accepted?

Hey do you guys know if we will be notified about acceptance decision to the Women’s Leadership Program with our admissions decision for the general school?

@ham4westwing I applied to that too. I believe we will find out with our regular admissions decision!

@NICE8x ah! that’s so exciting! Best of luck!

it seems like we are going to have to wait even longer. unbelievable.

@crownvic what do you mean? “Even longer” as in after April 1? GWU said we all should know by the first of the month, but I would really like to know sooner.
