George Washington University Transfer (Fall 2012)

Few questions for other accepted transfer students:

Has anyone received their acceptance package or financial aid package via postage mail yet?

Can anyone create their GW email address or do you need to submit your deposit first?

Where are you finding this information about submitting deposits by June 11?

Edit:
In regards to question 3; are you using the date listed on the Declaration of Intent form?

Which dorms do transfer students typically live in? Do we get the left overs and get stuck in Mount Vernon or is there housing allocated for transfer students?

I received my admissions packet yesterday, but I live right outside of DC. My financial aid was not included, I’ve only been able to view that on GWeb.

I had to submit my deposit and wait about a day after my deposit was processed before the system recognized me and let me create an email account.

In my admissions packet, it said June 11 on the Declaration of Intent and also on another letter. Mine might be a different packet though, since I got accepted earlier.

This article states that a lot of transfers will be housed in Lafayette on Foggy Bottom, and the rest will be scattered/off campus. [Transfer student community to shift to Foggy Bottom - The GW Hatchet](http://www.gwhatchet.com/2012/05/21/transfer-student-community-to-shift-to-foggy-bottom/) I don’t know how accurate it is, though.

Thanks for the response ShaylaK.

Just checking in to see if anyone else has received their acceptance package in the mail yet? I still have yet to get mine and I’m in Philadelphia.

Hi everyone, I’m Ari Massefski, the Student Association’s Director of New Students. It’s a gaudy title, but it basically means that I advocate to the university on behalf of new students-- incoming freshmen and transfer students. If there’s anything I can do to help anyone, whether it’s advocacy or just help with class registration, please don’t hesitate to email me at ari_m@gwmail.gwu.edu!

@GuyAtCC: The article from the Hatchet is correct. This year, much of the “transfer student community” will be housed in Lafayette Hall, which is a decent dorm in a great location (literally right in the heart of campus). This is a big improvement from last year, when many transfer students were on the Mount Vernon Campus and ended up moving to Foggy Bottom because they wanted to be in the city. While there’s no guarantee of housing assignment, there is a much better chance for this year’s transfer students to live on Foggy Bottom.

If anyone has any other questions, please feel free to shoot me an email! I’ll check this thread periodically, but I’ll always respond to emails quickly and I’m happy to help you with whatever you need.

Looking forward to meeting you all!

GuyAtCC - For what it’s worth, I got my second acceptance packet today (don’t ask me why), and it was postmarked June 8. I don’t know if some of them went out later, or what happened. Also, it might be worth it to note that your transfer credit evaluation may not be accurate. Mine showed only 3 classes transferring, but on GWeb, it shows significantly more transferring. I’m just trying to save you all from the mini panic-attack I had when I saw I was coming in with 9 credits out of 55!

@ShaylaK: I’m still waiting for my acceptance packet, and wanted to know how I can access GWeb? Does that information come with the packet?

Yes, but I accessed it long before I got my packet. You just need your GWID and your default PIN is your birthday in MMDDYY format. I found this site helpful in activating my various accounts and figuring out what I need to do: [Transfer Student Checklist | The George Washington University](http://transfer.admissions.gwu.edu/transfer-student-checklist)

@Shaylak: Do you know how to check for transfer credits evaluation? Thanks

Mine is on GWeb under Student Records and Registration> Student Records Information Menu> DegreeMap. Now that I think about it, though, the registration menu may have only become available to me after I deposited.

Hi everyone… I am a half time student and I’m still waiting to get my acceptance packet in the mail. At the same time although I submitted my documents financial aid hasn’t processed it yet and they’re saying that it will at least take 3 more weeks!

Worst issue, I’ve just been told that I will not be considered for any financial assistance (other than loans) because I’m a half time student despite it being a situation I have no choice on. I still need to know how much loans I can get before I make a decision. I emailed a few people but didn’t really get much help. In fact it was a bit odd, because I asked for an extension for my decision date until I hear from Financial Aid but they replied and gave me the same date that admissions said they wanted to hear back from me anyway- so they didn’t really extend it.

I’m really confused - is anyone in the same boat as me?

Is anyone

Still waiting for my packet. I thought it would have come by now, since I live in FL.

I live in CT and haven’t gotten mine yet.

I got my packet today. However, I live in northern virginia 30 minutes away from DC. I have to let them know in a week if I’m attending and still no word on my financial aid :/

My packet arrived yesterday and I live in NC.

I still haven’t gotten mine yet (Illinois). I was also told it would be a few weeks until we heard about financial aid. I do suggest you call the aid office though, as there was a problem with some of my forms that I didn’t find out about until I called them… no idea what would have happened with my aid if I didn’t. I really suggest calling if you haven’t already just in case!

Only one week to decide and no financial aid information? I’m going to have to see if I can get an extension because it simply isn’t possible for me to make a possible $60,000/year decision, in one week.

Also, still have not yet received my acceptance package, so even less time for me I suppose.

What is the average transfer GPA? Looking to transfer in Fall of 2013 with an associates in General Studies from a CC. Don’t really have a lot of EC activities except a law office internship and my own business.

Not sure about the average but I was accepted with a 3.9.

Received my acceptance packet today! I still haven’t gotten my financial aid though. I don’t know if I want to send in an $800 enrollment deposit without even knowing if I can attend…
