@cchung912 - the answer to that is they dont care. One of the people I spoke to a few weeks ago said (and I appreciate this because it was honest) that transfer studnets are on the bottom of their list in terms of priority. Basically we’re trash to them. They dont care if we accept or not and as they see it, they’re doing us a favor by checking out our application.
This is really sad to me. I went to community college because I couldn’t afford to go to Uni and I have maintained my grades and worked harder definitely more than the high school students they are picking over me.
I like GWU but it seems to me that they not looking to pick the most qualified students but a certain caliber of them - kids from rich families who can afford to pay $5000+ per class.

Hey guys, I sent in my application before march 1st. I emailed them a few days ago and they said it would be 7-10 business days for the remaining decisions…so I’m thinking the end of next week at the latest. For those of you who have already received theirs, how did you first find out? Email or snail mail? (I am applying to SEAS, by the way) And also, was your finaid package satisfactory? I applied to AU and was accepted (even dropped the $400 deposit with no choice because GW is taking so long), but my award package was much less than what I was expecting from AU. I would love to go to GW if they could top it.

Hey transfergirl,
I was accepted by AU as well as a business student and did deposit the $400 for safety matter. I got into GW about 2 weeks ago as a transfer student from a local CC. So far, no financial aid package has been posted. The AU has offered me $12,000 yearly scholarship and that was it.
I was notified of my admission through the ‘GW Activity Portal’ system.
Any admitted transfer student here has received his/her fin aid package? If so, how is it?

What is AU?

Wow tongasoa, I would think they would at least include some sort of financial aid notification with the acceptance considering its so late. I wonder how long it will take to get that as well. I got about the same from American when did you apply? It kinda sucks that we had to drop $400 before we knew anything about GW. I wonder if AU does that on purpose or if GW is just really super late on admissions. The only thing I’m worried about is that if I decide to go to GW it’s already so late in the game when it comes to registration I hope the classes I need to take aren’t full…

I sent an email to this guy called Ari, and he said GW wouldn’t set the matriculation deadline for transfer students until they were done with the admissions acceptances. Class registration would follow.
Based on that amount AU has offered, we still need lots of money from outside sources. I’m crossing my fingers that GW would be more generous. I’ll be majoring in International Business by the way. Do not worry that much about registration. I’m sure we wanna see how deep the water is before we want to keep ourself busy.

I think GWU gives much better finaid than AU does, so i hope it works out for all of you :)

hey i also applied to gw as a transfer for the elliot school. i was wondering if anyone has heard back yet? i’m also curious as to what the transfer acceptance rate is looking like for this year? gw is also my dream school and i’ve been super anxious for the past two months now! also, what’s the financial aid looking like for those who got accepted?

Thanks!

Hi everyone,

Hopefully I can answer some of these questions. I am an accepted transfer student, and I was accepted exactly two weeks ago today. I was sent an email a bit before 3 PM, telling me to check my Admissions Portal after 6 PM and my decision would be up. It was up before 5 PM (yes, I’m an obsessive checker!)

I also applied and got accepted to American, though I didn’t deposit because I was told I had until July 1. Maybe that was wrong, but anyway. I got pretty bad financial aid from AU as well. I got a $12,000 merit scholarship, a $2,050 AU Grant, and about $12,000 in federal aid/loans. My total was a bit over $26,000, leaving me with way too big of a gap.

I received my financial aid package from GWU a week ago today. This might have been because I called and very politely asked them when I could have my package, since I had deadlines for other schools. I was told to give them until June 1, but my package was posted within two hours. I had also been checking GWeb since I got admitted, and I had already sent them loads of forms they’d asked for (parent taxes, W-2s, Social Security statements, tax transcripts, student verification, etc.) Anyway, my package from GWU was leaps and bounds above American’s. I got a $25,000 scholarship, another $5,000 scholarship, and some smaller scholarships and grants that brought me to a bit over $37,000, before any federal aid or loans. My total package was a bit over $45,000, though it might go up since I just recently sent in (even more) forms.

Sorry to hear that you’re all waiting and you’re getting the runaround. I’ve had nothing but a good experience with all of GWU’s offices so far, but it’s a bit concerning the way they’re treating the rest of you. Here’s hoping you all get your information ASAP!

Just checked my portal. Looks like the websites “down for maintenance”! Hopefully this is a good sign.

@ShaylaK thanks! Very thorough:)

@transfergirl1110 yup, down on my end too fingers crossed

FYI, from their Facebook page:

"…we are hoping to get most decisions out by the end of today. However, transfer decisions work more on a case by case basis depending on the status of your application. Feel free to call the admissions office and they can look up your specific application and give you a better idea."

Good luck to everyone!

I called the admissions office and I was told they would all be released today and all applicants will receive an email notification saying decisions will be up after X time. I hope all are released today!! Good luck to everyone.

Does anyone know when transfer students can expect to hear about their financial aid packages?

I think it will be arriving in the mail along with your acceptance. If not, I am sure they would post it if you have already been accepted.
Good luck

I was also told that admissions notifications would go out today. In other news, I realized this afternoon that I’ve called the school of public health so many times in the past two weeks that I’ve actually memorized the phone number. Oops.

Hi when I called just now they said that they wont be getting everything out today but most will go out next week. Can someone update in here if they get the email asking them to check the portal?

Man this school is irresponsible. For 50k may I please have a functioning admissions office???

This process has definitely been nightmarish; obviously transfer students are not important to this university.

This is ridiculous, I actually go to GW now but have been following this thread for one of my friends who is applying. I’m absolutely appalled by this whole process, and my friend is so turned off at this point that she is no longer even interested in GW…
