George Washington University Transfer (Fall 2012)

It is a bit alarming that they cant stick to a date but in all fairness when I called the first time (May 1st) they did tell me that transfer students are notified last so I knew that I wouldn’t be hearing from them too soon. They wait for everyone else to get back to them on their decisions (including high school students who are barely passing) before they get back to a student who graduated top of their class in a community college.

I completely understand that transfers are the last to hear…but it’s the same scenario for every other college. How do other colleges notify transfers before their deadlines (BU) or on time, yet GW can not? All of the excuses they are using are BS and I only say that because no other school as these issues. I think the school should be embarrassed and it seems this isn’t the first year for this to happen…just a random suggestion, but it might help if they hire a new director of admissions? I originally was 50/50 between BU and GW but am almost positive I am going to BU for the lack of respect and honesty I have received in this whole process. I am still waiting to see all my options and good luck to everyone!!!

@pinkiegirl - I completely agree, GW doesn’t admit high school students who are barely passing though.

I saw that one of the students who were admitted had a 2.7 GPA - to me that’s not very good, that’s why I said barely passing, I didn’t mean they have bad students.

Just had my friend call over to the admissions office again. Between the 3pm-4pm they were saying the majority will go out today, the rest will go out early next week. It seems that now they are saying a few will go out today but the majority will go out next week.

I have never heard any school change their story this many times. Needless to say this does not look good on them. I also noticed that the phones are answered by students, that might be one of the reasons - they’re just not being informed of anything.

I just called and was told most likely none will go out today and all on Monday.

I am beyond annoyed with this school.

The way that they have handled this has also turned me off from attending this school. Instead of waiting to hear back from them, I think I am going to go ahead and put a deposit down for one of the other schools that I was accepted to. I just don’t know if I could justify paying 50k a year for such a disorganized administration.

I called them again just now (yes, I know I call a lot) and they said it will be Monday OR Tuesday.

I actually do not the see the logic in choosing transfer students last. They receive so fewer transfer apps that they could be done even before they receive their freshmen applicants. Also, very often freshman apply to more schools with far more safety’s and schools that are out of their reach. The transfer students know their grades and have a better grasp of what they want to study, therefore, transfers are far more likely to accept an offer to attend.
The drop out rate is higher for freshmen (duh), and because transfers have already had two years of school, the likelihood that we will graduate with a higher GPA is much greater.
Anyway…

GW is not a school that is worth the money because of their stellar academics (most classes are taught by adjuncts anyway-- gw has one of the highest rates of lazy profs), it is worthwhile mostly because of its international recognition and the career opportunities that are possible from attending.
With all due respect to AU, it is more well-known nationally… That being said, I think the students at AU are happier.

I was accepted to the School of Business on May 17.

They just want the four years of full tuition. That is what makes a freshman valuable. Twice the rEvEnUE babyyy!!! GW loves that. money money money money.

WHO ARE WE?

The smart ones who get the same degree for half the $$.

@Soccerfon711 – To be fair, it is just the admissions office that acts like a circular firing squad. They let children run it… but the rest is not so bad. Worth the money? No, but they do pay some of the highest property taxes where their campuses are located. ;)

Just checked the GW admissions Facebook page…they now say Monday. There are no words for my frustration.

WhamBam- why did you apply?

Schmohawk – I did not say I did.

That’s what I thought- so, you’re trolling …why?

Interesting you say that. I notice you just started posting on this thread as well. Member since 2007? I guess you must be trolling too. I’m sure those 950 posts weren’t made on one thread… I guess if they were you must have been really anxious.
I guess there could be a lot of reasons to post here. I’m affiliated with the school, I have a friend who is applying, I applied a previous semester, I know a lot about GW and the DC area, boredom…
You don’t happen to work in the admissions office, do you?
You like Larry David, Shmohawk?

anyone accepted into elliot yet?

Has anyone received acceptance in the last three weeks? I haven’t heard of anyone based off of this thread. If people get accepted today, please post and let all of us worried individuals have hope that we too may find out today!

Good morning everyone! Today’s the big day! =D (hopefully!)
Please post on here as and when you hear anything… Good luck!

I don’t think that they are coming out today because I just called and the guy said to me that they “don’t have a set date on when the decisions would be released and they are trying to do so as soon as possible so just hang tight”…this is a tad annoying…not going to lie…
