any news today??

Both daughters attended private elementary schools, but switched to public schools after elementary because the public schools had so much more resources than the private schools could afford. They both took every AP course that their high school offered, plus courses offered through a local community college. When the oldest graduated, she had the highest GPA in the history of her school (8.7 weighted). The one who’s a senior now will have a weighted GPA over 9.0, which may be the highest in the county this year.

Both had a ton of extracurricular activities and leadership positions in various high school organizations.

It might help to put the provost’s comment in perspective. It was very clever. It went something like this:

“You might be interested in knowing that 764 of you were 1, 2 or 3 in your high school class. The one thing I can guarantee is that 761 of those 764 will not be in the top 3 of your Georgetown graduating class.”

Apparently, he uses the same joke every year. :-)

For what it’s worth, the flurry of anxious posts back in December of 2009 looked very much like the posts this December - a lot of unsubstantiated rumors and angst.

I recall people speculating about whether you could tell from the thickness of the envelope you receive whether you could tell if you were accepted EA or deferred before opening it. Well, it turned out you can. If the envelope is thin, it’s a deferral. If it’s relatively fat, it’s an acceptance. The acceptance envelope contains 3 or 4 sheets of paper.

I hope that info doesn’t create additional angst. If it does, I apologize.

Not like we were expecting anything, but nothing in the mail for Marylanders again today.

Nothing from Ohio either.

What are the chances of the decisions coming in tomorrow? Since apparently some internationals got theirs.

FlaPops: if you don’t mind me asking, what were your daughters SAT Scores? Where should they probably be for acceptance EA?

@Flapops

that’s great, but it’s not possible at 99.99% of high schools to get an 8.0 gpa. At my school the highest you can get is a 5.0, but only for junior and senior year because of fresh-soph classes like PE which bring down your average. The highest ever at my school was a 4.5, and my school has a lot of really smart people.

It actually seems hard to believe for me that someone can be a valedictorian with a 33 on the act. There are four kids at my school with 36s, and probably 20 or 30 have a 33 or higher. I have a 35, but the second highest gpa with a 4.42.

@fjghas: Your school sounds pretty competitive but to be honest, ACT/SAT scores don’t mean one is smarter than another. I have a record high GPA at my private high school, which is definitely the best school in my area, but I can guarantee there are students across the county with lower GPAs and higher scores than my 2220. Sometimes people just take the test slightly better. Many say that a 2400 and 2200 is no real difference in intelligence any way. However obviously it makes a difference to colleges.

also, no news from NOVA

No news from Maryland. (30 minutes north).

Same. No News from Western MD (45 mins).

Just had my interview. Went great!!

Congratulations on your interview! We just had a rep from Gtown talk to us at school, and I’m falling in love with the school more and more every minute!!

Really hoping for an acceptance.

My counselor called the Georgetown office today out of curiosity. They told her that decisions are being mailed out tomorrow (December 12th), so most of us will be getting our letters on Thursday or Friday. Everyone should get theirs by Saturday.

Will the West Coast get the letters last?

If by last you mean latest then yes, but only because mail from DC takes longer to get to the West coast than it does the East.

Thanks, russ. Will continue being blissfully ignorant until Friday.

Guys, I’ve heard about some really rough times for those few of us applying from North Dakota. I have applied to the NHS because I am really interested in healthcare administration. Fortunately, I’ve heard it’s also (statistically) the easiest school to get into.

I’m from the Lakota Sioux tribe, came to the east coast to attend a better school on a tribal scholarship.

I have a 2340 SAT (thank god! :P), and I have a 3.94 unweighted GPA. Didn’t take the ACT. 790 Math II SAT II and 800 for bio and US History.

I have taken 16 APs over 4 years, got all 5s except for AP Physics B, which is a 4.

Our school doesn’t post rank but I’m pretty sure I’m on track to be valedictorian, NHS, Cum Laude, all that business. I am the President of Student Council, the President of the Native American Cultural Society (we put on annual dances and monthly dinners that celebrate Native American culture and heritage), and Treasurer of the Student Investment Club. I am also the captain of the varsity lax team, but didn’t get any offers because of that.

As you probably can tell from my name I really want to go to Georgetown… I really loved it when I visited it over the summer. Really kind of freaking out right now… Good luck everyone!!
