Georgetown Class of 2017 EA/RD Discussion Thread

I’m sorry, callie.

Wait what?? You got your letter? In the mail? TODAY!!! Oh my gosh…

And sorry about the deferral, I’m expecting one of those, too. Good luck for RD!!

What a day for the mailman to be late in suburban Maryland…

Also, my friend says nothing’s in the mail in North Carolina.

@carbs2 I’m in the same boat as you! haha, our mailman is notoriously unreliable when it comes to delivery times… I was expecting a decision tomorrow, now I’m suddenly very anxious :P

Ahhhh this is so nerve-wracking. Yesterday the mailman came at 12:30. This is absolutely ridiculous. That crazy USPS. Whatcha gonna do!!

I got mine in Maryland. I haven’t opened it but I know I got deferred…the envelope is so thin!!!

I just got accepted! I live in DC!
Good luck to everyone!

good luck with your decisions tomorrow everyone! no mail in Massachusetts today, but i’m banking on tomorrow

what are your stats tsion?

Well it’s good to know the letters really do exist I guess, lol. Sorry about the deferrals guys.

Nothing here on Long Island. Hoping for tomorrow. Those who were deferred please don’t lose hope if Georgetown is your #1 choice. Keep working hard in school and stay active in your ecs and you may just be accepted in April. Good luck!!

Just got deferred… not really sure what to do with myself or my life right now… how does this math even work? It makes absolutely no sense. What do they want me to do that I haven’t yet? What do they want me to be that I’m not yet?

I’m sorry, hoyasaxa.

Ew, that probably means my letter will come tomorrow. The day I have four tests, including a final for a college class.

Which means I’ll find out before said final. Which means either way I’m going to bomb it.

accepted!!! ahhh, this is so exciting!

congratulations!!! god i hope mine comes tomorrow

Statsssssssssss

@hoyasaxa

The world is upside down. Their loss. Don’t let this discourage you. Keep on keeping on.

A mom speaking here. Don’t get too discouraged if you’re deferred. My sister used to work in Admissions at a prominent private research university. Things differ from school to school, but I wouldn’t be surprised that along with trying to entice the really desirable students (high test scores, some internationals, minorities with good stats) the admissions office is also guessing at your ability to pay. All the schools are looking for the full pay student. My son is the son of a teacher and a musician. The admissions office will probably make an educated guess that we cannot afford to full pay GU. Correct! I think this game is played more with ED than EA, but it happens. Good luck to all of you! You’ll find your school. It might not be GU, but you’ll be in a good place next year.

Hoyasaxa,

Re deferral. I know it stinks but remember GU takes only what they perceive are the top 15% (including athletes I assume but am not sure) of the applicants at the EA stage. This EA acceptance rate is lower than any Ivy (EA or ED). Then the applications re deferrals are sent to new readers for the RD decision, and GU typically accepts another 15% or so of those deferred applicants (higher than other schools re deferrals).
