Savart basically they’re either too old school or too high and mighty too.

cruxclaire-you are unfortunately in a large group of kids these days! I’m the parent, hopping onto my kids’ account for a quick post.

With the sustained recession and 4+ years of raging unemployment, even parents/families who had saved a lot of $ for their kids’ college tuition have had to use up that money to just survive. I’m in HR/Recruitment and know LOTS of folks out here in CA who have been on/off unemployed for 4 years. Paying for food and the basics, along with unsubsidized health insurance will wipe out any family in short order. The people I know who have been borderline bankrupt and barely staying in their houses are not dumb people. These are smart people with advanced degrees, but what they’re good at, and have made a living at for years, nobody has needed for a while. Getting by on small project work assignments and consulting jobs, they have managed to keep their family fed and housed, but that big pile of savings earmarked for college keeps dwindling.

THe fact that you got in to Georgetown shows that you have the potential to succeed anywhere. When you attend college in the fall (wherever you attend) you take all that potential with you.

Don’t be too upset with your parents, unless they squandered their money and were obviously reckless. It just may be that the school you actually attend is a better fit. Give other schools a chance and don’t let this disappointment strangle your potential.

Good luck in the fall!

@claire-- don’t give up yet. Wait to see what your other offers are and then let Georgetown now where they stand in relation. The FA office knows they can make mistakes and might have missed something.

Any news at all about when they’re mailing?

I was deferred early, and I got my letter on December 14th, for a December 15th notification deadline. My guess our letters will be sent 3 days before the deadline, and if you aren’t too far away you will get it 1 or 2 days before the April 1st deadline. Mail will probably go out March 29 or so.

hey guys, did anyone apply with a fee waiver? I did.
And about couple weeks ago, they send me an email that said:

“We are pleased to inform you that your request for an application fee waiver has been approved. Please do not hesitate to contact our office if you require any additional assistance. We appreciate your interest in Georgetown University.”

I thought it was weird because I used fee waivers for bunch of others schools and none of them sent me a waiver confirmation. It is even more strange because georgetown doesnt send out emails out… imo at least lol.

FYI: I was accepted early and the acceptance comes in a small letter, but holds 3 papers instead of 1. I felt it as I walked into my house and it seemed fairly thick, but it’s hard to know. So just a warning, don’t give up too quick. I opened it and saw the tuition so that was when I knew for sure.

are you talking about RD or EA? do they inform people the same way for EA and RD?

I would be very surprised if Georgetown mailed on Good Friday. My guess is thursday.

A lot of you are saying that we’d get our letters on Friday, or “Ivy Day,” or that they’d mail out that day. Like @kelkym said^^, I really don’t think we’d get mail or that they’d mail out on Good Friday.

There’s no way that Georgetown wants the results to turn up during the apex of Holy Week, and if they were smart, they wouldn’t release their decisions on Ivy Day either. And if our acceptances do come over the weekend, either they’re that “high and mighty” and think anyone would preference their acceptance over an Ivy acceptance, or they really don’t care that much about Holy Week (which would be shocking because, after all, it is a Jesuit school).

Thereforeee, I’m pretty sure the decisions were already mailed out, or that they’re going to be mailed on Thursday so that it skips completely over Good Friday and Easter, y’know?

I’m just as anxious as all of you guys!!! Fingers crossed (:

Interesting dilemma as the university begins Easter recess this Thursday and classes resume the following Tuesday. (This is a separate Easter break. The week long spring break was the first week of March.) I don’t know if the administrative and academic offices remain open over Easter break or if everything is closed. Even with the calendar, however, I can’t see how Admissions could shutdown, even for a day, unless everything is completed and mailed on Wednesday and the Admissions Department then takes its well deserved break over the Easter weekend.

Good luck to everyone in this year’s admissions pool.

My guidance counselor told me that he believed Georgetown mailed letters Friday (22nd). I attend a Jesuit highschool where 20+ students apply to GT every year so I am sure he has his sources. If this is true that means we should definitely be finding out very soon.

If that were true I think some people would have found out by now… though tomorrow will make or break that idea.

Ugh I’m leaving for spring break on Friday morning and I really hope I get my letter by then (coming in Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday mail). I’d hate to have to wait another 5 days on vacation… maybe I’ll ask the cat-sitter to send me a picture of the letter…

Yes the letter sizes were the same for EA, but I’m assuming RD as well. Just don’t tear up a small one in rage right away.

@rugbyfield, I hope you’re right!

Well mail is here in my part of NYC and I haven’t seen Facebook blowing up so eh.

I called the admissions office today and got nothing. I was trying to see when they were mailing them, but they simply said all applicants will receive their notification by April 1st. I’m leaving for spring break Friday so my wait is going to be so long

That seems like it would have to mean that letters were being sent either today or tomorrow in order to get to everyone by Monday. I have a hard time believing they are mailing I’m Good Friday, and Saturday would leave nearly everyone receiving after the 1st. I don’t see them mailing on Thursday either. Maybe some of us will have something in our mailbox tomorrow. I guess we’ll see!

^^^^ Now that was impressive detective work.
