Georgetown Class of 2017 EA/RD Discussion Thread

FYI, got the FA letter today. It’s doable!

@Youdon’tsay what? So you got your acceptance letter or just your financial aid offer?

FA means financial aid. so youdon’tsay got their financial aid reward.

Haha I know what FA means but what I’m confused about is if try got their acceptance letter before that or just got their FA offer. I though Georgetown would send FA either with or after an acceptance.

Are you saying the cost is doable? You’re like the first person to say so. If you don’t mind, in a very roundabout way, what-ish is your family’s income? Giving a bracket from 40-700k is frowned upon but if that’s as exact as you’ll get I’ll take it. lol.

@nebraskagal, EA accepted students get theirs in march but RD get them a couple days after their acceptance.

@csihsis, Yes that is what a lot of people are saying. There were only a few people that said that their FA award was within a couple thousand. Idk if Georgetown allows people to appeal for more FA but you could try.

Gtown determined EFC within $200 of what the FAFSA said, so I’ll take it. Only loans are federally subsidized.

“We have reviewed your application for financial aid. After a careful analysis of the financial information provided in your application, we regret to inform you that you are not eligible to receive need-based financial aid from Georgetown. We do not offer financial aid based on merit, academic, or extracurricular activities.”

Goodbye, Georgetown. :(

^^^^^ awwww i am sorry. Do you have a sibling in college or something?

I’m sorry, crux. Ds has wanted to go to Georgetown for as long as I can remember, and I’ve had a pit in my stomach wondering whether this will work for us. I hope you have some other great options. If you got into Georgetown early action, you must be a really strong candidate.

I have two younger sisters who will go to college in 4-6 years, and my parents just don’t have college funds for any of us.

^^^ did they give you any loans?

Georgetown! Y u no release decisions?! I can’t wait anymore.

@beautifulchick95

Not directly. The letter mentioned unsubsidized loans being available, but not directly through Georgetown, I think. It doesn’t make a difference. I’d have to be completely insane to take on that type of loan burden.

I seriously doubt we are going to get letters until ~28th when the Ivies do

@claire. I’m sorry its GT lost. They shouldn’t claim to meet 100% of need by not giving need.

Wait–did someone earlier in the threat get a FA letter without getting an acceptance letter from Georgetown? Were you EA or RD?

I’m here on the west coast, on a RURAL ROUTE so my mail takes a few extra days, just DYING TO KNOW if I’m in SFS or not. Ugh.

I hate this part of the process. I’m not a patient person when I JUST KNOW they have their accept/reject/waitlist information all stored away in the database, they’re just not RELEASING IT! They couldn’t possibly still be agonizing over who is IN and who is OUT at this late date.
Augh!

I’m not sure if you’re talking about me or someone else (I’d read the posts from a few days ago, but I’m dead tired right now), but I got in EA.

@cruxclaire: I am saddened by your predicament for FA. The EFC is often not a true indicator of what a family can spend, and it’s frustrating when parents couldn’t (or didn’t) start a college fund for their kids…especially if it’s the didn’t. We’ve passed on vacations, new cars, etc to be able to set aside what we could for our kids’ college education. We’re both successful professionals so our EFC is mind-blowing as I don’t see that amount sitting in my savings account waiting to be spent. Have faith that things will work out as they are supposed to and good luck to you.

Does anyone know why Georgetown doesn’t have an electronic notification system?
