@KateHBag You should definitely take the third subject test.
I am applying for Georgetown University (Georgetown college specific) for Class of 2021.
SATs/ACTs : Not the greatest but tried my absolute best.
SAT II: Was not financially stable enough to afford 3 SAT subject tests…(barely made it to school because of scholarship & financial aid) and did not qualify for fee wavier.
GPA : 3.5 without dual enrollment addition with dual enrollment addition it is 3.7~3.9
I am expected to complete around 24 ~ 30 college credits through dual enrollment.
course loads : Honors American gov & economics, Trig & Pre-calc, Honors English 12, Marine bio, pre-engineering , Intro to national security (SE 101 college), American Military History (HI 203b college) and will a have additional 200 level courses next semester for college courses. (started taking them since junior year).
Major awards : Gold star, silver star, Center of Advancement of Security Studies Award, Anthony Wayne Legion Guard,
Essays I would say at least according to the college level professors who proof read…it was unique and different I would say. (I have a clear dream, goal and I know what I want to do in life with the specific course of study that Georgetown offers).
Interview: Impressed the interviewer/Seems like it went very well.
Recommendation letters: From 2 of my well known my college professors (all doctor levels for the majors I am interested in at college).
Counselor Rec : Shouldn’t be my biggest problem.
Additional Rec: My current math teacher who is also a masters degree professor at Drexal University.
I am currently a soldier in the United States Army Reserve.
For Extra curriculars : VFMAC Regimental Band : Drum Major, Senior Member of the VFMAC Regimental Choir, Treasurer of VFMC Cyber security club (only high school student in college club),President of the Film club, President of Korean club, Vice president of Kendo club, Leader of VFMAC Student ambassadors and varieties of leadership positions (rank) of Valley forge military academy corps of cadets.
For summer activities : I can’t really say this is a official activities…but…I start doing my own research projects (scholarly level) but how do I prove it and make it official ?.
Job experience or service : Does the Army Reserve count ? (current status not legal to work in the U.S exemption for the government due to F-1).
My school is located in Pennsylvania.
I am from South Korea but I am being naturalized through service in the United States Army.
I am fluent to Korean & English (never been in a ESL or ELL course).
Ethnicity: Asian.
School type is : private military academy.
Income Bracket:My parents make around 800,000 a year but most of them goes to my tuition and payment of debt so don’t really have a lot left.
Hooks : Does first generation U.S education/college counts ?.
Please help me out a bit .
@lilydoe Yes- they do not reject any applicant in the EA round.
I’m so nervous I can hardly function
Literally SO anxious. I’m constantly doubting my stats. This is stressful
Can’t believe we’ll know next week omg
@kangminwoo17 I think you have a chance. It’s going to be ok. I have to admit there’s really no way to accurately chance someone because college admissions are so unpredictable. It’s often not JUST about test scores. They look and see different aspects in every single one of us and decide accordingly. All we can do is wait and see how it rides out.
We’re all pretty nervous here, but we’ll find out soon, and no matter what happens, I’m sure we will all end up somewhere we will be extremely happy and with the best results possible for our future!
@teenstogether123 It’s not that scientific. Obviously it’s best to have both. Hooks don’t replace subject tests but they can help you by kind of making up for them, but unless it’s a financial impossibility, you should take three tests
is it possible to switch the school you’re applying to?
im a transfer student from a community college
i chose school of foreign service, as i want to major in science technology and international affairs major but ive pretty much prepared to be a physics major for the longest time (i already applied to UCs as a physics major, but i just learned about georgetown and saw their STIA major and it’s EXACTLY what ive been wanting to do w/ my major except that UCs don’t have that major so i was planning on double majoring to create it)
but now im wondering if i should just apply as a physics major instead and try to double major in STIA? is it necessary or is the STIA program enough? i have two years of a foreign language and have taken macro and micro economics, but besides that i havent taken any of the political science or international affairs classes. i will have the complete physics sequence (all the math and calc-based physics and even chemistry) to fulfill a regular physics major though.
will this hinder my chances at all? it’s funny because my application essay to UC sounds almost like the major description of their STIA program haha.
Same here. I am having recurring stress dreams. Trying to stay positive and tell myself that I want a school that wants me back but…so nervous!
For Georgetown college, does 31 ACT with 2 subject tests seem uncompetitive?
Here’s a tip: when you run out of college acceptance/denial videos to watch, watch dorm move-in videos. They’re just as stressful and exciting
@Taewoolee You should really take a third subject test in January if you get deferred.
The good news is that Georgetown will treat deferred applications same as other applications in RD phase, not like some other schools where a deferral is almost like a rejection. Georgetown gives you a real second chance. So good luck everyone, don’t give up yet if you don’t get in this week.
Do you guys expect any calls or letters today?
@macaronnie I think it’s probably unlikely. Also, letters might be delayed because of some of these wildfires that have been spreading around. I know that’s delayed a lot of my usual mail.
Based on past college confidential EA threads, people usually started to get letters on the 13th so I don’t think it’s a stretch that some people get them tomorrow or Wednesday.
I spoke with admissions and they said letters should be arriving on the 15th or close to the 15th…I’m guessing they will be mailing them tomorrow, but not sure. I spoke with them this morning. I thought I read on this thread that they will announce when they have been mailed, but I’m not sure about that.
So are we notified solely through letters and calls? I doubt deferred students get anything beyond an email
Pretty sure everyone gets a letter. Only accepted students get calls and some may fall through the cracks, based on what has been posted.
