Also, @HowBoutCollege, your subject test scores are fine. Don’t take them again. They won’t disqualify you. Did you take the June test? Are they already out?
@NikkuWadde Nah, I took the May test. June scores will be out July 21. SAT and SAT II scores both take forever to come out now since the SAT changed. (Random rant, but I’ve been really annoyed with CB over the past year. Some of the stuff they’re doing is borderline fraud and the rest is super inconsiderate, but we all just have to deal with it.)
If all colleges cared about was test scores and GPA, I’d be in, but the class would be a lot more boring. Your stats are still in the middle 50%, so it isn’t like they’re shockingly low. No way their cutoff is higher than the 25% mark! You think I’ll get in, I’m sure you’ll get in. Hopefully December is happy for both of us!
So how has essay writing been going for everyone? I need to buckle down and work on them, but it’s hard to write an essay that my educational future depends on. High stakes stuff!
@HowBoutCollege I wrote the first one (about most important extracurricular activity) and that’s it. No need for me to hurry because my guidance counselor won’t send me my transcript and rank until August and I won’t get my SAT Subject Scores until the 21st.
I talked about cross country and track because that was what I put my my 1st and 2nd spots on my extracurricular list (I guess cross country and track count as two different ECs but whatever.)
Two things I want to talk about in my other essays are how I went from not being able to swim to being a lifeguard and working towards EMT certification.
I never knew we had to send SAT scores. I got 2090 (1420 CR+M) on the old and 1470 on the new. Definitely won’t disqualify me, but I wish Georgetown had Score Choice so I could save myself $11.
Where are you guys finding the essay prompts?

@paveyourpath Just an FYI, unlike most other schools, Georgetown does require you send ALL scores, from every test you’ve ever sat for. So if you took the SAT and ACT, you have to send all sittings of both.
Also, they aren’t kidding about the Subject-test-optional EA rule. I applied EA with one subject test and got in. Granted, I took another in October and had planned to take another in January if I got deferred. While this is an awesome reason to apply EA, don’t assume you’re in, and don’t take the requirement lightly if you get deferred. I have a friend with a perfect GPA, eagle scout and a 34 ACT who got rejected with two subject tests. Have a plan to take the subjects by December/January at the latest, and hopefully you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
Also, as someone who just went through the process, feel free to ask me any questions
@HowAboutCollege I applied to the business school, while every one of my extracurriculars was either music or theater. Don’t shy away from sharing what you love because you think its not applicable. In fact, it makes you unique. For the essay about your most involved activity, genuinely talk about whatever it is in its full depth. They love to see passion and involvement, whatever it is!
@c0IIegeb0und So you are a freshman at Georgetown? Would you mind posting your stars?
Could someone give me feedback on the stats I posted?
Hey guys. I know my stats are lower compared to others, but Gtown is my top choice and i have 2 outside recs from alumni that are big donors. Also-- i think my leadership and ECs are great. Not everything even fit on my common app lol
What do you guys think??

School Applied To: MSB

Job/Work Experience: CVS (since sophomore year)
Volunteer/Community service: Habitat for Humanity, Youth Ministry Leader, Started a Youth Choir
Summer Activities: not much of anything
Essays: Really liked my common app, wrote about dealing with a tough boss and what I learned about effort and confidence. The MSB specific essay was good, really went in depth about what specifically I liked about the school (I read a brochure, that helped). Can’t remember my extracurricular tbh, but I know it was passionate. For the talents thing I modified a ND essay about being insatiably curious, didn’t write anything for special skills because I wasn’t sure what they wanted for that and I read threads on here that said they didn’t really matter
Teacher Recommendation: Both teachers really liked me, my english teacher is invariably honest but I hope that helped me rather than hurt me
Counselor Rec: 600 kids in my class, I met with him a lot leading up to my app but he is not a good counselor, probably very little effort put into my letter
Additional Rec: My youth ministry leader who really admires me, I read the letter and it was good
Interview: My interviewer FORGOT and showed up an hour late, but i think it went well and answered tough questions well
Other
Applied for Financial Aid?: No, i have parents and step parents so I would get nothing
Intended Major: Marketing
State (if domestic applicant): PA
Country (if international applicant): USA
School Type: Good Public but huge (600 per class)
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: $200,000+
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Nothing really, thought being female applying to business might help
Reflection
Strengths: ACT, Leadership, Essays?
Weaknesses: GPA is good compared to my school but not nationally, I did a lot of music electives which I was passionate about but that didn’t really support me as a business candidate (aside from my leadership roles). Still, I showed passion which I guess they liked!
Why you think you were accepted/deferred: I DONT KNOW IM SO HAPPY! I feel like my essays were good although I didn’t really spend an exorbitant amount of time on them
@college2021___ Yea, your scores aren’t great. I hate to say it (I know how hard it is, I had to do it) but I would recommend getting a tutor over the summer and testing again in September. As some have said, at no other point in your life is a saturday morning as important as four years of work. Maybe try an SAT practice test? Your scores can only improve, and I see that as the only thing holding you back. Class president is AWESOME, leadership positions like class president or Editor-in-Chief or valedictorian are things that Georgetown really looks for. Use a well formatted resume and good essays to highlight your passion, leadership, and involvement. For the MSB essay, make sure to include what specific programs you love about georgetown (liberal arts/business core, international focus, jesuit values) as well as your future plans if you have them. Your GPA is great, but if you can really strengthen all of the parts of your application i think you have a great shot!
@c0llegeb0und Thanks, I think my question was misunderstood. I wasn’t asking if it could be done but was trying to convey to sonofabraham that I didn’t think it was possible. I attended the information session with my son and understood that they want ALL scores. I actually went the other direction and started to wonder if this also meant the AP scores. Which I now understand is not the case. My son took SAT and ACT each one time and has 1 subj test done. Two more scheduled for October but we do know that if he is unable to sit that day he can still submit EA and take the subj tests in November in case of deferment. Thanks for your informative info. It’s really helpful to have current students help with the process.
@paveyourpath sorry for the misunderstanding! I just knew that I was really confused about that policy when I was applying. I’m glad you were able to find the answer you were looking for!
Help! I’m planning to apply EA and have all my test scores EXCEPT my SAT II Subject tests. I’m taking the SAT II on Oct. 1 but the EA is due Nov 1. Will this be an issue? Should I apply RD? I’m not sure how long after taking the SAT II tests that you/colleges receive results. Will Georgetown still accept my EA even if I don’t have my SAT II scores by the deadline?
@HistoryNerd99 no, you don’t need scores to apply for EA! You should still plan to take them unless you get deferred.
