@sunshine23 - Thanks!
Hello everybody! I love Georgetown!
Looking at the results threads for past years really eased my anxiety about the SAT subject tests. It doesn’t seem like you need perfect scores; the whole “3 required” thing seems to be about yield, and weeding out the people who don’t love the school enough to go through that process. It had been a horrible week when I took Spanish in May (APs…) and even though it’s one of my favorite subjects, I got a 640. I know that that’s not so bad, but it’s 39th percentile, and since Spanish is one of my major interests, I think I’ll retake it in the fall. Sigh.

AP (place score in parenthesis): AP Human Geography (4), AP Comp Sci A (4), still waiting on APUSH and AP Eng 3 (I am a little worried about this…my school does not offer a wide range of AP options at all and I have to take three dual credit courses in order to have these subjects weighted and remain competitive in rank. Does anyone know how this will impact my application?)
IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
Senior Year Course Load: AP English 4, AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP World History, honors chemistry, band, leadership, research in information technology (although I might change this to an independent studies in English course…any thoughts?)

Summer Activities: 1 year as a volunteer camp counselor, 1 international mission trip, accepted to and attended a national camp for young women in STEM last summer
Essays: I have started drafting, and this will undoubtedly be a stronger point in my application, hoping it will compensate for my average numbers and lacking extracurriculars
Teacher Recommendation: will be strong
Counselor Rec: a little worried here, my school is fairly small and our counseling office has always been questionable (they lost my sister’s national merit scholar letter last year), and the counselor I have had all 3 years has moved to a different job position and will not longer be a guidance counselor
Additional Rec: will most likely come from a priest at my church or youth leader

This is my first time posting in one of these threads and I’m so sorry if I asked too many questions! I plan to apply EA, and I’m not even sure if my numbers look realistic. My ACT score is embarrassing. Do I even have a chance at getting in? I’d really appreciate any input
I think the fact that I accidentally posted to this thread multiple times and can’t delete anything speaks to how new i am to CC
You can click edit on the first post and delete everything
@c0llegeb0und How was your experience in your first year as a MSB student? What did you like and dislike about Georgetown before applying and then after as a student? I’m interested in business too. My stats are similar to yours and I’m from PA too!
Also, do you have any tips for people applying this year, specifically for MSB applicants?
I posted on the first page of this thread, but I’m going to do it over to add some scores and other information, and also because I’ve changed my mind about some things. Can someone chance me? I’m a good test-taker but I think that might be the only thing I have going for me.

Should I submit an additional rec?
Also, I called the Office of Undergraduate Admissions today and they said that it’s a good idea to have 3 subject tests, even for EA, just because it helps them get a good idea of what you’re like and what you’re good at. I don’t know; I’m probably going to study a lot this summer and take the three aforementioned in October.
@class0f2017 So I’ll actually be entering my freshman year this fall, so I can’t give you a complete review just yet. I’m a very passionate person; I do everything that i do because I care deeply about it. For the longest time I couldn’t figure out how I got accepted to Georgetown, until went for GAAP weekend. A professor at Convocation spoke about ho everyone at Georgetown wants to “set the world on fire”, and each student has a fire within them that drives them to do what they do. To me, that’s what differentiates Georgetown from every school I applied to, and I never knew it until after I had been accepted!
Another highlight of why I chose/love Georgetown is opportunity. Because there are so many driven and passionate people, and you’re going to school in the nation’s capitol, there are so many opportunities that you’ll get nowhere else. As far as business specific, you have the opportunity to be hired my the largest student run nonprofit in the world - known on campus as “The Corp” - where you could graduate as a board member or a CEO. There’s several programs such as the Global Business Fellows and GUAFSCU ( a student run investment firm I think) and dozens of others that are unique to Georgetown.
As far as advice, I’d say don’t be afraid to be yourself. I applied to the business school when 99% of my extracurricular activities were related to music or theater. But I was able to convey my passion and leadership in my essays, and I was accepted EA. Georgetown CARES about your essays, perhaps most of all, perhaps more than any other school. There’s no word limit, so say whatever your heart desires (still try to be concise though). For the MSB specific essay, try to highlight specific programs and aspects of GU that would help you grow, and be sure to convey your ambition and passion above all else. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask!
@c0IIegeb0und what are the specific MSB programs that you included in your essay?
@c0llegeb0und I really needed to hear that. I feel conflicted between applying NHS vs. SFS. I really would love to major in International Health or Bio but my science and math grades are definitely weaker than my humanities and language grades. So what should I do?
If you need like extracurriculars and what I’ve done, GPA, etc. I’d be happy to share. lol help
plus SFS just seems really hard to get into especially considering my stats etc. and my ec’s are really a mix

Also I’m like an extremely mediocre to bad test-taker
O wait and I’ve been in student council for (3 yrs) and I’ve also been apart of buddy club ( a club that aims to help our international students assimilate to our school community - 2 yrs)
Plus I keep spelling competitive wrong lol

In the other : I’m proficient in two languages English and Twi ( a Ghanaian language) then obvs I take Chinese and Spanish
Plus the real mix-up : is Ik in most- if not all I have b+ whereas in all my humanities I have all A’s- so would it be stupid to apply NHS
But then SFS is intense idk
HELp
I don’t think SFS is any more competitive per se than NHS. Their acceptance rates (from what I’ve seen) are about the same. It all depends on what you think you want to do in the future. SFS seems to be up your ally if you’re interested in service and stuff like that. You could write great essays about your ECs that would make you ideal at either schools. Again, it depends on what you want to do with your life.
@schooldays18
I’d just like to point out that the opinion of other CC users has absolutely NO effect on the outcome of your application.
If you have to know your chances, make your own thread in the “Chance Me” thread please.
@1zogden1 So t’d really recommend looking into all the programs yourself because not only is it informative for you but it’ll be coming from your heart. In my case, I was kind of blasé about grown until I looked into it and realized it had everything I wanted. The specific programs I loved about MSB were the liberal arts core and business core, because not only did it give me the liberal arts foundation i desired, but it also gave me the chance to try every aspect of business and develop my own interests. I also loved the jesuit values and international aspect.
@schooldays18 try not to worry too much about difficulty. I spent too much time worrying about which school to apply to and trying to figure out which gave me the best shot, but in the end you have to go with what you love. If you don’t get in, at least you went with what you truly wanted. SFS is more notoriously hard to get into, as it seems they have a higher score range, but overall georgetown makes it very clear in their publications and in their acceptance rates (each school has the same percent accepted) that you have the same chance of getting in no matter which school you apply to. If you’re that undecided, maybe look into the college so you can study anything until you really figure out what you want
