**School Applied To: SFS **

Objective:

  • [] SAT I (breakdown): 2140 (760 M, 680 CR, 690 W) actually didn’t send this oops
    [
    ] ACT: 35 (35 R, 35 E, 36 S, 33 M) 20/36 on writing
    [] SAT II: 720 WH, 700 USH, 720 Lit
    [
    ] Unweighted GPA (4.0 scale): 3.95 ish
    [] Weighted GPA (4.0 scale): 4.3 (out of 4.4)
    [
] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable):top 4%
[] AP (place score in parenthesis):World (4) USH (4) Lang (5) Euro (4) haven’t taken test yet for: Bio, Lit, US Gov, Comp Gov, Spanish Lang, and Macro
    [
] IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP Spanish Lang, AP Bio, AP Lit, AP US Gov, AP Comp Gov, AP Macro, Calculus, PE class, an art class, and required theology
    [
] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Commended, AP Scholar with Honor; medalist on National Spanish Exam; did really well on the American Mathematics Competition one year and got an award at my school for it

Subjective:

[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Model UN (3 yrs, president for 1); service based club (4 yrs); altar server (4 yrs, captain for 3); International Affairs Club (2 yrs; PR rep for 1); NHS; exchange trip to England; National Spanish Honor Society
[
] Job/Work Experience: babysitting (4+ years) & I run an Etsy shop, it’s very minor but I listed it on my resume
[] Volunteer/Community service: fair amount- mission trip to Central America; service week at camp; various tutoring programs; and I had an entire club dedicated to community service that I was very active in
[
] Summer Activities: student exchange trip to England; mission trip to Central America; Counselor program at my summer camp; babysitting
[] Essays: my special talents/skill was about how I have a form of synesthesia and how it affected my learning- it was probably considered “quirky” but showed my voice; school/summer activity one was about my exchange trip and how it influenced my choice of major (a condensed version of my common app); my personal statement/free essay was probably unique- i did a day in the life of me and again it showed my voice and whatnot; my SFS essay was the weakest IMO because it was a general issue but I related it back to a personal experience to show why I thought the issue mattered. I’ll be honest I wrote my essays pretty quickly and didn’t have anyone read over them because I was too busy
[
] Teacher Recommendation: didn’t read them. both teachers apparently write good recs but I’ve never been the student that’s been super close with my teachers. Both liked me, generally, though
[] Counselor Rec: no idea. I know she likes me because I actually try but she doesn’t know me on a personal level so- if I had to guess she probably wrote about how I’m driven.
[
] Additional Rec: didn’t send one
[li] Interview: Interesting- I think it went well overall and she told me that I’d be a good fit. She seemed interested in what I had done throughout high school (Model UN, exchange trip) and we talked a lot about that. She said some odd things about her Georgetown experience (how hard language requirement is to satisfy, about a bad experience with a history class, how many students seem to be stuck on campus) which was weird but overall I think it went really well. [/li][/ul]

[] School Type: private

[] Gender: female
[
] Income Bracket:$200k+
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): literally none[/li][/ul]

Reflection

[ul]
[] Strengths: ACT score; rank
[
] Weaknesses: my SATII’s are a lot lower than everyone else’s now that I look; I’ve always been worried that my EC’s aren’t that great
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred: [/li][/ul]

General Comments: I didn’t get my letter today (unlike the rest of America) but I had a student from SFS call me telling me I got in!! This was exciting because it was my first reach school acceptance!! I hear back from UChicago on Friday so fingers crossed that goes well. also just a note- I didn’t send all sittings of SAT/ACT and it wasn’t a problem…

[] Counselor Rec: very strong, extremely lengthy with a very good counsellor in my school.
[

[] State (if domestic applicant): N/A
[
] Country (if international applicant): India
[] School Type: Private
[
] Ethnicity: Indian
[] Gender: Male
[
] Income Bracket: suffice it to say that money is not a worry
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): N/A[/li][/ul]

Reflection

[ul]
[] Strengths: Essays, recommendations, ECs
[
] Weaknesses: Math grade (I have a 39/42 but with a 4/7 in math), bizarrely low SAT Literature score
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred: I think in my second and third essay I was able to articulate myself very well, and really get across what drives me, defines me and makes me unique, and I think they sensed that it was a good fit with regard to Georgetown. I think it also helped that as an applicant to the Faculty of Language and Linguistics I had very strong English and foreign language grades (perfect all through school), a lot of activities indicating my interest in it and a history of achievement that made the SAT Literature score look an anomaly.[/li][/ul]

General Comments: I almost didn’t apply early because I thought my math grade, and then my SAT Literature grade, would screw things up for me. Don’t do that, if there is a reason you want to go to Georgetown (or any other university) more than any other that you can clearly articulate you should apply. In any case, Georgetown doesn’t reject so you’re not at a HUGE disadvantage even with less than ideal stats. If you got deferred in this round, don’t beat yourself up over it and don’t take it as a personal thing; I think they intentionally restrict the number of acceptance early and it isn’t something you can control. In any case you will get in somewhere and irrespective of where you go be very happy and very successful wherever you go. Take the deferral, however, as a reason to reflect upon whether or not Georgetown is right for you because your deferral might have been due to fit rather than qualification.

[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred: Probably didn’t quite stand out[/li][/ul]

General Comments: A little disappointed, but I’m applying to a lot of places so I’ll keep my fingers crossed! One weird thing- I checked the application website after receiving my letter and it said that my counselor hadn’t submitted her recommendation… Not sure if that could actually affect anything or if maybe the website is wrong, but it was a little jarring. Still, huge congrats to everyone accepted, I’m so proud of you all!! And for everyone else, don’t worry, I know it will all work out
