Will accept AP scores in lieu of SAT subject tests (something they have been saying in info sessions for last 4-5 months or so). Let the discussions commence…is an AP score of 3 good enough to send? 4?
Agree with the above, my comment was more tongue in cheek that we may see posts from students asking should I send a 650 or a 3? 710 or a 4?
Bottom line, I am happy to see both Cornell and Georgetown decrease their reliance on subject test scores…that will likely be a meaningful and positive change to a reasonably significant proportion of applicants to those schools. I expect these two schools’ new policies may decrease the total number of subject tests taken as well, also a good thing IMO.
They should then add AP tests to the list. That would avoid the debate. One of the things I like about Georgetown’s admission process is the lack of score choice.
hi I have a question because when I called the admissions office asking about this they said take the subject test because the ap thing should only be for students who don’t have the capacity to take the subject tests does this mean I still have time to cancel my trash scores from yesterday lol
if you decide to fulfill the requirement by using a combination of subject tests and ap tests, then you have to submit every single subject test AND all your ap tests. so if you have taken 3 subj tests and only 1 is good (ie above 750) and 5 aps (let’s say 2 5’s and 2 4’s and 1 3’s), then you still have to send in everything.
This is interesting! At our info session with the Dean of Admissions 1.5 years ago, he stated that they have researched and found that the SAT II scores have the highest correlation with “success” at Georgetown, and spent a bit of time emphasizing how important they were. He also restated the “strongly recommend”, and then asked the students if they really thought that submitting SAT subject scores sounded like something that was optional.
If I was an applicant, I would read that policy as they still strongly prefer SAT II scores from anyone who is able to take them, and AP is meant to be an option for those who can’t, especially international students.
Imo, itll take time for us to sort this out. I haven’t yet seen “all AP.”
The correlation with success is hard to pin down. If you’re the sort who lines all his ducks up, works to do well in grades and all scores, plus ECs, you’re already in place to do well. The drive is there.
