I want to major in English and potentially Poli Sci. Thoughts?

It boils down to which college you feel is a better fit. One thing to keep in mind is that Michigan has a much larger student body than Georgetown.

Academically, it depends on the sort of focus you’d like to choose for yourself. I’d imagine that your interest in political science (it’s called Government at Georgetown) will benefit from Georgetown’s DC location and the popularity of the subject at GU. That said, if you plan on being in an environment where both your interests are ‘treated equally’, Georgetown’s focus on government might make that a little more difficult. That said, you can pursue both subjects to any level of your choosing at either institution while being assured of quality instruction and challenging work.

Outside of academics, as Recharge mentioned, Michigan is a far larger school although as part of the Honors program (incidentally, I’ve been admitted to U-M Honors '14 too) you’ll find a smaller sub-community. Michigan will be a little more homogeneous in that the proportion of in-state students is definitely larger and Ann Arbor and Washington DC are very different locales in many ways.

I’m actually interested in pursuing Political Economy at Georgetown in addition to English. I guess my main question would be how the UMich Honors English courses compare to the Georgetown English curriculum. Insight from current students at either school would be appreciated (but I suppose since this is the Georgetown forum, I shouldn’t expect too much info on UMich). Thanks guys!
