does anyone think that since Boston College is a Jesuit university like gtown that may help my transfer app?

GW is closer to $60,000/year, and has maid service for freshman! (a bit over the top?) :) and altho a parent isn't supposed to know :) there's alcohol at AU, as at all schools !

tdolson88~
yes, i think it will help. however, BC singles itself out IN CONTRAST to GT by saying they will maintain a non-secular style, while they see GT as becoming more secular, in terms of Catholicsm and the jesuit tradition.

I personal prefer the "non-secular style". Georgetown should embrace its Catholic identity and history as the first Jesuit/Catholic institution of higher education in the United States. It's a shame that secular progressives encourage Georgetown's renunciation of its Catholic identity.

so why leave BC?

b/c I have a strong interest in government/world affairs and I feel that Georgetown has more to offer in these fields.

so does that mean BC doesn't have these sorts of majors?

and what about other schools with those majors? must it be GT ? especially considering your religious beliefs?

happycollegemom- BC has a strong polysci dept but the student body is rather apathetic towards politics. Georgetown is located in the political epicenter of our nation and also offers an abundance of internships throughout the capitol.

I would like to earn a degree from a Jesuit institution and the other universities in DC are secular.

I think there is a difference between GW and American. The campus, as American Transfer said, is a big part of it. I've been to both both the GW campus as well as the AU campus so I know what they both look like. I'll try to clarify my question a bit more: how do they compare in terms of academic rigor, prestige, and access to the city?

Without counting housing costs which I already have taken care of, American comes to approximately 32k a year and GW to about 39k a year, each give or take $500-$1,000.

I don't want to hear about how similar the two schools are over and over again. I want to hear what is different about them and why - not just the campus. And, of course since this a GU thread, how GWU might compare to GU - if anyone knows.

Access: both can are near the metro. GW is actually in the city, while AU is in the suburbs.
Rigor: depends on the classes and teacher. I haven't found non-honors classes at AU very hard, but it depends on who your professor is
Prestige: I think GW has greater prestige than AU, but thats a subjective thing

What metro is closest to American? I remember there being a shuttle service to the metro because it isn't that close.

Md, are you also transferring out of American?

Do the students seem hardworking?

smile~ seems you're repeating yourself and i thought i was answering you...AU, tho perhaps not with the glitz of GW is better academically. some like its suburban location better. AU= smaller, more personal classes, top o' the line IR, awesome career counseling services, anything else?

I am transfering out of American. The metro is about a 10 minute walk, or shuttle.

Honestly, I think it depends on a lot of different things in regard to the AU GW comparrison. I visited both in January and found AU's library sucked. However, I found that GW was too spread out, and might be a pain in the arse to get from class to class. GW is closer to stuff, and the metro. Honestly, when all was said and done I actually preferred GW's facilities to Georgetown's. I'd still rather go to GU though. I actually got accepted to AU, but they wanted a decision way to damn soon.

While AU's library is pretty bad, all the libraries in the DC region (howard, UDC, GU, GW, AU) are integrated into a consortium. So if AU doesnt have a book, and GW does, then the student at AU can get the book in about 2-3 days. So if you just plan ahead, you can get what you need.

Thanks everyone for the input. Well, does anyone know if we're supposed to receive our financial aid packet at the same time as our (God willing) acceptance letters for Georgetown?

I dunno smiledarling, but I don't think so cause the evelope is supposed to be real small. Although it could come seperatrely.

Is gtown generous to transfer students with financial aid?

When I toured Georgetown they said, very emphatically, that they will find a way to help you meet need. In other words, they sounded more optimistic about their financial aid package than any other place I applied to or visited.
