Funny thing though. Food for thought I guess. I'm on GU's mailing list, and someone else and I from our college went to one of those Georgetown Info nights up here in the Bay Area. The lady gave her shpiel, and then we approached her with questions. We told her our stats, and what the chances were for admittance. She said almost in passing that it's much easier to be admitted as a transfer than as a freshman. I dunno, the financial aid thing gives me a little hope, but the not hearing from them really sucks.

Matt, when did you hear back from GW? I have applied to GW, UMD, and GU not heard from any.

I heard back from GW a little less than a week ago. I heard back from UMD a little over two weeks ago. That's funny, cause I applied to UMD right at the deadline, (March 1) so I'd figured everybody had heard from UMD by now. Have you gone to their admitted students web page, (UMD)? Somewhere on there it tells you if you've been accepted or not. It's [possible you might need a pin, but I don't recall that.

Yeah I have tried the web site it always says,
"We are unable to offer you a decision on your application at this time. You will be contacted as soon as the decision process is complete. Thank you for your interest in the University of Maryland."
So I am in the dark when it comes to whats going on.

B U M P

People who are waiting for GU. I will clarify why they take so much time to review your application..

It's all because of incoming freshmen... their deposit deadline is May 1. So basically, after May 1, they see how many spots are available then start to distribute transfer application and review...

Basically, they start to review beginning of May and it takes them about a month (like any other college) tp release their decision (beginning of June).

Good luck!

how can one explain why some people last year received decisions as early as april 30, and many during the beginning of may?

yeah I agree with brad, if it's like you say it is Cider (I'm not saying your lying or anything) then how did people find out end of april early may last year?

"It's all because of incoming freshmen... their deposit deadline is May 1. So basically, after May 1, they see how many spots are available then start to distribute transfer application and review..."

This is the case with most of the universities however, and a lot of them notify transfer applicants by mid-may. I think Georgetown wants a more accurate estimate as to how many spots should be offered to transfer applicants.

Which one of the colleges was the first to send out their replies last year?

I would assume colleges with rolling admissions would start notifying transfer applicants several weeks within the receipt of application materials.

I find it funny that Georgetown would wait till after May 1st to review applications. Like I said earlier, they've already inquired into my financial aid, so obviously they're looking at something. I's probably wishful thinking on my part, but I can't understand why they'd finish with the fresmen first, considering the fact that there may be a number of transfers who are more qualified that some freshman they may have already admitted? Besides, don't they do waitlisting?

Different schools just like to do things differently. They can only give a general estimate that notification will arrive around mid-may. In some cases, they may even ask for more supporting documents.

But the freshmen and transfers wont be in the same class. Why would they need to know how big the freshman class is to know how big the sophomore and junior class will be? They probably wait to see how many older kids leave.

They need a see how many spaces are available... canyonbrad.. I actually agree with you.. but i'm generally saying you know.. not specifically...

Maybe those outstanding stats people will be notified early as April 30.. But generally.. It's end of May

When I was asking which college notified first, I was asking which one within Georgetown University.

Do transfer acceptance letters come in big packages like when we were accepted as Freshman? or in envelopes?

Hi. I just found this site and am so relieved to see that other people share my concerns and are eagerly awaiting June 1.

Here are my stats.

-University of Pittsburgh student (currently full-time)
-Part-time student while working as a professional ballet dancer for Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre (childhood dream)
=Current Cumulative GPA 3.7, but I expect a 4.0 this semester which I will send to the adcomm as soon as grades are posted
-Already have internship with CBS affiliate news station in Pittsburgh this summer
-1380/1600 SAT
-High School GPA 4.3
-Dean's report from honors college @ Pitt and what I am assuming are two stellar recommendations
-TONS of activities in HS, awards, etc.
-volunteer on the Honors College Community Service Committee @ Pitt
-etc.

I technically have Sophomore status @ Pitt but I received an email from the adcomm today that said if accepted I would have Sophomore status @ Georgetown. So i lose some credits but I don't care-it's Georgetown!! :)

So, for luck, what do you think my chances are of transferring into the College? I applied to the American Studies major (it seems to be that is where the media/journalism students are, I've done some research. thoughts?)
-in addition, I am also getting a degree in broadcast meteorology online from Mississippi State University. I want to work in broadcast media and want to be as prepared as possible, so I'm picking up this extra degree on the side.
-I also like writing/politics which is why I want so badly to be at GTown.

let me know, thanks so much!!! :)

pitt, I would say its a pretty good sign that they sent you an email? I dunno maybe I'm just reading too much into it.

pink- thats what I am hoping. i couldnt find your stats, are you applying this year too?
