ah Sorry @worriedtransfer didn’t see your stats posted on the previous page. My bad!

Would someone mind giving me an idea of my chances?
I attend Iowa
HS GPA 3.0
College 3.8 GPA, big improvement
33 ACT
Minority status
Good recommendations, good extracurricular activities
so-so essays
I applied to the College

I am worried that my essays may ruin my application. They were done somewhat in haste. Could they be the reason for rejection?

Hey guys quick question,

I didn’t get any communication from Georgetown since the receipt of the second part of my application, and I am sure i sent in all required forms. Is anyone else in the same boat?

I have also not heard anything since submitting Part II.

@anontransfer

oh okay, i was slightly worried. i live on socal and there are two gtown alumni on my street so I was a bit concerned that I wasn’t contacted for an interview.

@ynwaliverpool
it doesn’t matter how many alumni in ur region… the problem is that they are not willing to spend their spare time taking this volunteer work :(

From yesterday’s acceptances, i have to say “nothing is impossible”

does “nothing is impossible,” refer to my acceptance based on my stats, or my rejection based on my essay?

additionally, I took 9 AP’s in high school and am enrolled in entirely advanced-undergraduate classes. Helpful? I was thinking my grade trend from HS to college could be seen as a good thing.

some accepted applicant doesn’t have very competitive stats such as SAT, but still get in because of his/her special experiences. So it’s very hard to predict the result… being patient is the only thing we can do :)

@ynwaliverpool I did have an interview about a month ago. Haven’t heard anything else from the admissions committee though.

I didn’t think SATs were required as ACTs could take their place. Am I wrong in this!? I thought my stats were somewhat competitive (a 3.8 and 33 ACT?)… I would hope my chances are better than “not impossible…”

Oh gosh, can’t believe people are hearing back already. So nervous!

@hopefulom
I think a lot of top schools require applicants to submit SAT or ACT because the standard test is unbiased while GPA are different because of school’s rank and professor’s measurement. So committees can compare unbiased and biased academic performance to evaluate u. Also we should consider ur recs and extracurricular activities. We will see if ur stats are competitive in the next two weeks :)

I meant to add this in my original post- in my acceptance letter it said they are looking to fill about 170 transfer spots from an applicant pool of over 2,000. I’m assuming that is spread out across the 4 schools but I don’t know for sure.

Is anyone applying to Georgetown College for Linguistics? I’m so nervous… i had a 3.9 in 22 credit hours but i didn’t do well in high school. I’ve worked so hard for this though. And I didn’t get an interview. Which makes me really nervous.

Great. That sounds like we’re expecting the lowest acceptance rate so far in Georgetown’s history? That comes out to like an ~8% acceptance rate. This is not sitting well with me…

@ trakke I share the same sentiments. But then again, I am sure that we are all strong candidates!

Guys they are going to accept alot more than 170 people because they know alot of people may choose not to go here. THey should accept around 400 students because they usually get around a 50% yield rate.

Do you think it is a benefit to inform the committee that Georgetown is the only school you applied for?

I don’t know, if you check the GTown transfer student profile, it says they accepted ~207 students last yr…
