Someone from the admin office emailed me about a week ago, asking for me to email a pdf of my ACT score report (which I had sent officially along with SAT scores in early October). Does anyone know if this means that the official report was never received by the school? I’m just really paranoid now that they never got any of my scores in the first place.

Hey everyone! I’ve been following this Georgetown thread for a while, and I just wanted to say that I am so excited/nervous that we’re getting our decisions this week! You all seem so lovely, and even if we don’t get in I have to stay hopeful that everything will work out.

Does anyone know when letters are typically received? I am applying from MA, and I’m anxiously awaiting my decision. Best of luck to you all!! xx

Hi all, I applied to GU last year (deferred EA and accepted RD). I live in the intermountain West and last year they sent the decisions out later than usual, but they said if you didn’t receive your decision by the 16th (I think???) you could call admissions and get your results. I called last year and I waited 20min just for them to tell me I was deferred lol. But just thought I would let y’all know. Good luck! The one nice thing about GU EA is that no one hears “bad news.” I mean, unless you think being deferred is “bad news,” but if you think that, you need to be more positive!

@silverlemon Best of luck to you!(: Ideally, we have them by the 15. Last year I believe they were mailed on the 13, so I’m guessing you’ll get yours by the 14 or 15!

@takacatboy Hey, do you know if Georgetown posted on social media when they sent out the letters last year? Thank you for the kind words!

@takacatboy thanks so much for the encouragement! Do you have any recommendations about what to do if I’m deferred? Should I send in another essay? Another recommendation? Thanks again for the help!

@takacatboy That’s great to hear! I completely agree with the need to be positive - it’s nice that Georgetown gives every deferred application a second look! Are you at GU this year?

@justliviglife @maddyduv @silverlemon Wow! Didn’t realize so many of y’all would reply so quickly. If you want to read my whole story feel free to just look at my “Looking for an Intellectual School” thread, but long story short, I got into quite a few great schools last year, come May 1, I had no idea what I wanted. I enrolled at Cornell; I visited Cornell; I withdrew from Cornell. So here I am, taking a gap year and reapplying to schools—I did ED to Columbia and EA to UChicago and MIT.

As for posting on social media, yes I believe they did. However, I don’t know if they do that every year.

This being my second year going through applications, the best thing I can say is to hope for the best but expect the worst. Worst comes to worst, you end up like me LOL—doing it all over again. But seriously, don’t worry too much. Honestly, college admissions are such a gamble half of the time.

As for getting deferred, all I did was email my rep an update about myself. I wouldn’t send in another essay or recommendation. The AOs are already working so much and don’t give them more. Last year, I simply sent a paragraph talking about the ECs I was doing and then updated them on my first semester grades and new test scores (I retook ACT and SAT2s in December last year).

Let me know if there’s anything I can do for you guys or any advice I can give you. I consider myself I pretty seasoned applicant now lol.

does sfs have better or worse admission rates than the college? i know it differs from year to year but ive been hearing different things about the general trend

@optimisticallypessimistic Good one

@takacatboy Oh wow! I think I’ve read and commented on your stuff! Didn’t you get into Yale?

Woah, did anyone else see how there’s no longer subject tests available in January? If I get deferred, I’m screwed

@justliviglife Hahaha. Yup that’s me. Last year I was admitted to Yale. And I wouldn’t worry too much about test scores. I submitted ALL my SAT scores last year, and while I had my good SAT2s and such, I took Math2 three times which included a 580 and a 620. As well, I only took the SAT once, but I got a 1320 on it—by no means bad, just not good either. Granted, I did have a good ACT and my best SAT2s were good, but test scores aren’t everything. My cousin used to work in admissions and he said they used to use test scores more as a “weeder.” He said bad test scores certainly don’t help you, but good test scores don’t help you either.

@takacatboy Yep! I coudln’t take them because of natural disasters. I was in the affected areas and I lost my dog because of it (and no we didn’t leave him behind or anything. It was just a really tragic accident). It was really hard on me and my counselor told me I could take the January SAT IIs. I should’ve checked, but I know they had been available in January in the past and I trusted my counselor, so I thought nothing of it. Tonight I went to check the registration deadline only to discover there’s not an available test date until May. I don’t think I’m getting in EA, so if I don’t then I’m going to have to give some explanation to admissions. Rip

I got a 33 on the ACT and I have a solid GPA and a great resume, but there are people applying from my school with much better stats and they were able to take SAT IIs, so…I guess we’ll find out at the end of the week.

@takacatboy Wow! Good luck to you as well! It’s funny, the same thing happened to me as far as a discrepancy between SAT/ACT scores - I did considerably better on the ACT for some reason. Thanks again for offering advice! If I get deferred (likely), I’m sure I’ll be taking you up on that!

@justliviglife I hope everything is okay! I’m sorry about your dog. :frowning:
I took SAT subject tests, however I didn’t do well on a couple of them so I chose to submit none. I guess we’ll see how that goes! I’m not extremely worried though, because I’ve read plenty of cases of people being accepted EA to Gtown without them. And as far as the natural disaster, they’ll definitely understand!

@justliviglife Well a 33 is great! I mean, it does put you in the middle 50% for all those top schools and that’s really all you need. I feel like when you have a test score that high that there’s not much of a difference between like a 32-35.

I’m sorry about your dog :frowning: That seriously sucks. I hope you and your family are doing alright in the wake of the natural disasters!

And don’t worry too much about not getting in EA. I believe Georgetown is one of the few schools where their EA round is more selective than their RD round. Plus, you might change your mind about what your top choice is in the coming months. I chose to apply EA to Georgetown last year as it was my top choice. Obviously, I got deferred, but in the months leading up to May I changed my mind about what my top choice was way too many time and it hasn’t been until this year that I’m confident that my top choice is Columbia, and even then, I understand that there’s no one perfect school. I feel like all schools have their pros and cons and there isn’t a school that’s better than another; they’re all just different.

Best of luck to you! Feel free to DM or tag me here if you want me to edit any essays or anything (I LOVE editing supplements) or need any other advice.

@justliviglife Oh and as for people with better stats than you. I wouldn’t worry too much. Again, when test scores are that high they’re all relatively equal—I feel like that’s when essays matter much more. I got into Yale over my school’s Valedictorian last year who also had a 2380 old SAT and 1600 new SAT. As well, I got rejected from UVA last year even with stats way above their averages and I’m a legacy, but my friend who only had a 29 ACT and had a much lower GPA than me got in—and I worked my ass off on the UVA supplements!

@takacatboy Thank you so much! This all means a lot coming from someone who was so successful in admissions:) Good luck to you!! I really hope that you end up somewhere that you love.

Does anyone know when the decisions will be mailed? This is getting more unbearable as each day passes … has anyone called the admissions office? :open_mouth:
