@hershey789 There’s no need o be nervous. I had my interview over the phone and it actually went pretty well. My interviewer said she was happy I knew of both myself and of specifics of the school so that’s definitely a plus. They’ll ask you to describe yourself for sure, just like any other interview, so start thinking about what you want them to know instead of sitting there going “Um, I don’t know where to start.” But yeah, like @keurimja said, it’s all about having a natural conversation and both sides are trying to learn more about each other.
Hi, I can’t speak to your chances but was wondering if you could tell me about your experience at the NSLC Law camp? My son is interested and I’m wondering if it worth the cost. Is it something that will help on a college application? Thanks.
Looks like I am joining in right when the conversation is getting interesting!
I applied for transfer admission as well from the University of South Carolina with a 3.8 GPA. I am not intensely involved in school yet I do have my select activities and am an officer in two clubs and honor society I am a nontraditional student, however, as I am 26 and married with children. From what I understand there are not too many students such as myself at GU so I don’t know if that is bad or good…I guess we will see.
Also, I had my interview over a month ago and it went great. I agree with others that face to face was actually quite nice and just fun. My interviewer gave me tons of info and made me feel a lot better about things I had been so worried about.
I know I have personally had a heck of a time making sure all my paperwork was in and completing all the financial aid documents. Has anyone else had this issue? I will say that the admission and financial aid staff have been super helpful and patient though. Anyway, I digress. I wish everyone the best of luck!!
When do decisions get announced?
@LGfromDC, @bdhyea97, @keurimja-- thank you all for your very helpful advice. I do have a question, I am worried I will begin to trash my current school. do you have recommendations on how to watch out for that or reword it in a positive way?
@hershey789 I was afraid of the same thing. What I did is make sure that I said that AU was a good school but elaborated on the specifics of why I wanted to go to Georgetown. As an example, I didn’t insult the study abroad program here but just explained why I would rather participate in that of Georgetown. I compared the two as little as possible but really stuck to the details, that way your reasons aren’t focused on why your school is bad but just why you want to go to Georgetown.
@Micki801 The NSLC was definitely a good program. It was tons of fun, even if at times a little cheesy, and melded different types of learning experiences within the activities. The best part, I would say, is that I discovered the monitors for each program were college students themselves, so they were really relatable. Whether or not it is worth the cost depends. The program is definitely helpful to have on an application but its important to do other things at the same time. On its own, it won’t be the changing factor of whether or not your son is admitted, in my opinion.
@hershey789 Definitely, this was something I had to make sure I didn’t do. I just stated what I really admired about Georgetown (diverse student body, breadth of opinion and worldview etc.) and stated that I felt this was not available to me at my current institution. My interviewer actually asked me to be more candid about it, not exactly “trashing” the school obviously but to be very honest without sugar coating it.
@jwalters1 Decisions for transfer admission are supposed to be on June 1st. Though I have been told by a couple of people (including my alumni interviewer) that the financial aid packets tend to go out first and that’s how people find out “early” that they got accepted.
@smoore0113 Do you know when those typically come out?
@keurimja I think it is more of a fluke occurrence than anything else so I wouldn’t know a time frame. I know my interviewer said she got hers like 2 weeks before the actual acceptance letter.
Guys thank you so much for the advice! My interview was today and I think it went really well!
@smoore0113 Oh I see, thanks for the info
On another note, did you guys send your actual AP scores? Or did you just self-report
I sent the ones I hadn’t sent in my freshman application. Whatever scores you sent, AP or SAT/ACT are still on file if you already submitted them.
@keurimja i just self reported, and i wasnt asked for anything so I am guessing that we dont need to send actual ones?
@hershey789 I’m assuming that’s fine but I just sent them in today just in case tbh.
@LGfromDC I didn’t apply out of high school because I didn’t believe I was competitive enough, so I’m starting from scratch haha
any decisions being sent out yet? I know it’s early but I’m wondering if they’re releasing decisions in phases like other schools. I was just contacted last week because they said I was missing my SAT scores. Already had my alumni interview like 2 months ago. It just sucks that they don’t have a portal that i can actively check for my decision like I do with other schools. Well, wishing everyone luck! Doubt I’m getting in but still.
No decision here yet. I heard from Cornell today.
Anyone have an idea when decisions will be posted? I know the website says June 1st, but other schools release earlier, so I wanted to see if anyone has info on Georgetown specifically.
I looked back at the forum from last year, and it looked like acceptances started going out starting May 1st in waves, with waitlist and rejections coming out on the last day of May and June 1 respectively.
