Georgetown University Transfer 2019

Not me

Anyone know abt how many people in total were waitlisted compared to number of McDonough applicants waitlisted?

I have no idea. I didn’t hear back anything either.

Anyone hear today? It’s a week before July 15 now

still nothing. college.

It really annoys me how GU knew they were going to get their entire 2020 spring cohort from the Waitlist and didn’t notify us of that. They should have either just had a later notfication date for Spring 2020 or initially said they were pulling all the Spring 2020 students from the waitlist. Instead of waiting until after

I agree. There’s some unclarity about the whole Spring 2020 situation. For example, you can choose to be considered for both terms (Fall 2019, Spring 2020), but you have to chose which term you prefer as well. It says on the transfer FAQ page, “Please know that your application will be reviewed for your first preference and then for your second preference if you wish to receive consideration for both terms.” However, last years thread mentions someone newly on the extended waitlist calling admissions, “Extended Wait List. Apparently they didn’t even begin considering Spring Applicants.” So technically if you said you preferred Spring 2020 (meaning you will be reviewed for that term first, then fall) you never got reviewed for spring, therefore never got reviewed for fall either. Which doesn’t make sense since you had to be reviewed somehow to be on an extended waitlist, but you get the picture: it’s a bit odd and we don’t really know much about it. Nonetheless, approximately 50 applicants seemed like a risk I was willing to take as a rising sophomore, so I selected both w/preference for spring 2020.

Same situation for me. I really like my current school so I would perfer Spring 2020, plus it seemed like a better chance

wait, are they only reviewing for spring admission now?

Here’s my best guess of what’s going on
They received 2600 applicants for 100 spots - they admit 140 and history tells them they will enroll 90-ish of those students. At the same time they deny admission to maybe half the applicants. Now we are down to about 1160 who are then offered spots on the waitlist. At that point I would guess about a third of applicants pay deposits and fully commit elsewhere leaving 775-ish willing applicants remaining for about 10 spots in the Fall and say, 45 spots left for Spring.
My best guess is that most folks have a preference for Fall admit so they identify those ten first (probably not over enrolling as waitlist applicants will have a higher conversion rate) and if any of those ten have a preference for Spring they put them to one side as admitted for Spring at the front of that queue. Then they identify the 45-ish students for Spring (including any put to one side from Fall) and update the online portal, denying most everyone else.
I will say that the numbers for Fall from the WL are so small that its entirely possible those applicants have already heard and aren’t on CC so this forum won’t have heard from Georgetown - the big reveal maybe Spring admits this weekend.
Make sense?

Yeah, seems pretty spot on. Best of luck everyone! My guess is we will get our decisions back this Friday.

I phoned the admission office and they were saying the decision will be sent soon on a rolling base. Btw, how do I know if Gtown received my recommendation letter?

Well if it was the original one from faculty it will say so in your online portal (green check mark) if you sent another after being Waitlisted I suspect the only way is to ask over the phone.

Yeah and if you’re talking about the one before you were waitlisted, then if they didn’t contact you about it you should be fine.

Does anyone know if they will notify us the decision via portal or mail? I am currently in China, so I would not be able to receive any mails and phone calls

I don’t know for sure, but I think it will be like last time. Portal first, then the hard-copy mail may follow.

Just called admissions, they said decisions are most likely going to be posted on the portal.

Did they give any indication of when they might post decisions on the portal?

No, but my best guess is tonight or tomorrow.

it says before 15 July on the wl letter. Maybe Monday the lastest
