@Shurui you will need a new i20 and a visa… the visa states the university’s name your attending. Either you have to head home to get it switched or get it done in the US which means you can’t leave the US until it’s changed
@Lynnnn0928 @airway1 Thank you both for your replies! But it seems you two gave me two different answers… @Lynnnn0928, so does your visa only show your high school name?
Did any spring admits get their FinAid yet? If I don’t get it today (and obv won’t get it during the weekend) I will literally have 4 days to decide. :neutral:
@Shurui I recommend you to contact the International Student Services at Georgetown directly to ask for their opinion on this matter.
YES. It has the name of my HS on it. I would still recommend you to contact whoever that is in charge in GT, but in my case, even I have technically transferred my record from one institution to another, which is similar to your case, I did not need a new visa. But again, you do need a new I20 issued by GT for sure, and you would have to pay SEVIS fee again. Again, congrats on your acceptance @Shurui
@shurui as a parent of a student who was on an F2 and transferred to an F1. You can’t go to a school with a different i20 not issues by the school. As soon as you get accepted you must do the istart and follow the instructions to get your i20. In no way can you use a high school visa to attend a college. If you live in the US they will allow you until your visa is transferred to your new school which as adviced by the international office could take a year or more and you can’t leave the US. Had to fly back home to apply for a F1 visa for my son.
@Lynnnn0928 what type of visa are you on? F2?
F1
@Lynnnn0928 high school part of the university? Anyways you will need It sign by the university so not sure how they will sign the document for your travel if it’s not in their name. Just make sure it’s cleared for all four years.
Thank you guys for the replies! I have emailed GT regarding this matter, and I’m waiting for their response. When I chose to enroll in GT, they told me they gonna send me a series of emails in the coming weeks regarding common questions, which I believe should include this type of info as well. Anyways, I will update it as soon as I receive any official answers. Again, thank you guys!
@airway1 No, my HS is completely unrelated to my uni. I20 wise, yes you re absolutely right that you need a new I20 issued by your current institution. But idt you need to apply for another visa just because you transfer to another institution, the old one (as long as it has not expired) should work fine.
@Shurui ofc, good luck!
still nothing from fin aid. I’m getting nervous we literally have 3 days to decide
@laxgirl77 Hey! I got really nervous too, so I went to the financial aid office Monday and they uploaded my fin aid package a couple of hours later. There was something they didn’t understand in one of the documents (I wish they reached out); my guess is the same thing might have happened to you. If you live close by, I suggest you visit. If not, maybe look up your advisor and shoot them an email or try calling. (My advisor didn’t answer my phone calls, so I ended up stopping by)
Anyone ever ever get a formal rejection letter?
Hey @patiecer thank you! Do we have a specific fin aid advisor? Or did you just call anyone in the office ?
@Kd6410 nope… I just called and asked if all decisions had been released, which obviously they haven’t, and they asked for my name to make note of it. Anyone have any potential conspiracy theories or think this means anything? lol I’ve accepted that ill be going to USC at this point…
I also called like 20 minutes ago and the lady asked my name to make sure ’ everything is set.’
I think they wait to see if any admitted students declined their acceptance in which case they would offer that spot to one of the individuals they have waiting.
