Georgetown University Transfer - Fall 2021

I was reading a reply in the first-year regular decision cc and someone who was rejected said their rejection letter said “The Committee considered 27,650 candidates for an entering class of 1,550 first-year students. As a result of this high level of competition, we were able to offer admission to only 11.7% of the many well-qualified candidates". I looked up the rate from last year and according to this article it was 15%, and the year before was 14% which was a “record low”. Here is that article: GU Sees Rise in Acceptance Rate for Class of 2024
I’m definitely overthinking this but I feel like since the first-year acceptance is so low the transfer acceptance may be normal??

I believe the acceptance rate is lower than other years because there were far more applicants than previous years and the same numbers of spots available. Like roughly same amount of spots/ more applications = lower acceptance rate. Does that make sense?

Does anyone know if a class size of 1550 is normal for georgetown?

Enrollment in 2017 was 1,601

Yeah, it’s a little low. So many students deferred last year who they need to make room for, and with likely reduced study abroad they need to make sure there’s room for everyone on campus.

Yeah, all of these factors are making me doubt more and more. Who knows tho, we may be surprised.

Is anyone a junior transfer here?

Just finished my interview. Interviewer was super impressed and said that I would be a “perfect fit”. Do we know how heavy the interview carries in the decision process?

Glad it went well! Since interviews aren’t required as part of the transfer app process or guaranteed because interviewers are volunteers it seems unlikely they carry much weight.

I think a good interview can have a tremendous impact on your application. I think Georgetown tries to stress that if you do not get an interview, it will not count against you or hurt you in any way because the interviews are based on availability. However, I do think that it carries a lot of weight if you had a good interview.

Ik in their CDS for freshman applications the interview is listed under the “important” tab, which is what ECs r listed under as well

What are everyone’s stats? is anyone applying to McDonough

hey something kinda interesting happened but idk maybe it’s just a coincidence…? i had issues sending in my college transcript and it was just received like a day or two ago and this afternoon I got offered an interview…could these two things be related?

That’s good you were able to send in your transcript! I got an interview way before I even sent in my transcripts so I am not sure if they are related. I think interviews are offered based on availability of an alumni.

I got offered an interview today too after not being offered one before. it’s weird.

Hey all! First time posting here, nice to meet you all. I am an international applicant applying as a rising sophomore. I saw that many people got an interview (congrats!!) but i was wondering if international applicants receive or can request an interview? Also, does anyone know if there might be a possibility that interviews are merit based, as in the more appealing the applicants stats are, the more likely they would receive an interview? Thanks!
