Georgetown vs. Duke

I am in a huge dilemma! I just returned from visiting both schools and love both of them; they each have their positives and their negatives:

GT-great city, awesome resources for part-time jobs, old traditions, lots of history

Duke-amazing campus, everyone is soo friendly and happy, felt at home when i visited, great weather, great facilities

About me: i'm interested in sciences, specifically physics, and I'm thinking about pre-med. Also, I'm into music and community service. I'm from a large public school in NY. Oh, and I can see myself at both schools! Negatives: GT-campus lacking in facilities, too compact for me; Duke-very rural, party-hardy

I was in the same situation... but I ended up choosing Gtown MSB over Duke because I wanted to do Finance and have a career on Wall Street... MSB just had an advantage over Duke in that sense, but I'm not too sure about pre-med/sciences...

Thanks for the reply...I would go to GT too if I was in business for sure.

Anyone else??

It depends on what you're looking for. I'd say sciences overall are probably stronger at Duke, in terms of the doing a lot of research, getting a lot of money, having better facilities sort of way.

By the same token, the Georgetown science faculty, although small, is probably overqualified. Georgetown has the most family-friendly policies for tenure-track professors of any of its peer institutions, so Georgetown attracts many professors/researchers who might be in an Ivy League science program, but end up at Georgetown because they want to have kids and stay on the tenure track.

The smaller number of science majors and nearly non-competetive nature of the pre-med students can be a huge plus both for your own sanity and access to professors. And Georgetown pre-med students do extremely well in admissions to medical schools. I think the biggest downside is the currently sad status of the science facilities here, which is changing. Construction on the new science complex is starting next year.
