Georgia Tech Class of 2023 EA Thread

Forgot to add this to my post bf, but an important part of my app was my GT essay, which I thought was pretty good-- but then again I’m probably not a very good judge of it.

For the “why this major etc.” I talked about a condition I was born with, and how it’s affected my insecurities, life, and other things. I had 4 bilateral corrective surgeries on my inner ears since I was nine, but I’ve lost about half of my hearing, and have a horrible pressure in my ears that causes me a lot of pain.

This is a huge reason for why I’m so interested in BME, and I expressed that in my essay, as well as the hope to prevent the things that affect me every day in other kids who are born with the same condition. I feel weird using this part of my life as a college essay, but it’s important for why I want to do BME so badly. Do you think it is strong enough to help w/ the engineering acceptance?

Is it too late to submit application updates or supplemental information?

And is it a good idea to email admissions saying that Georgia Tech is your top school, and if accepted, you will 100% commit?

@blazinamazin2023 the document deadline for EA was the beginning of December, so yes I believe it’s too late. On the second question, GT doesn’t have a binding early application choice, so that would lead me to believe that emailing admissions with a “100% commit” won’t do much. Can’t ever be certain, though. just my opinion.

Your advisor will be assigned based in the major you chose on your application and your course selection must be approved by your advisor. You can change majors for second semester meaning spring. You can have one free switch where the requirements to switch do not have to be met. However, GT does holistic admissions with professors involved in the process. They realize many students switch majors. Quite a few change to business. Switching majors can be costly in terms of time. They recommend you take 12 credit hours a semester so if you walk in with few credits graduating in four years is difficult. Is it possible to take more than 12? Yes, but it is grueling and definitely not advised first semester. My d who just graduated did not have her resume filled with science school activities nor subject tests. There is no magic formula.

It must be extremely difficult to change to CS. Has anyone changed major to CS in GT

Yes, you can switch to CS

Is it too late to change your alternate major you applied for if you applied for EA?

Yes its too late.

Decision Date January 12, 2019

Given that the 12th is a Saturday, should we expect it on Friday or even before?

@VACrew I wouldn’t bet on it. MIT’s early decision was released on a Saturday and since Georgia Tech says it’s the 12th, it’s highly unlikely it’ll come out before then

On another note, does anyone know if scholarship info also comes out on the 12th?

@VACrew and @game7214 , months ago, I read through some of the posts about last year’s 2022 EA thread. If memory serves me well, there was a countdown of the "exciting, panicky, I can’t wait till 12 pm noon (or some specified time), etc. " flurry of posts. If someone else digs up the exact time, please post it here! Also, I seem to recall something about notifications for scholarships would happen within a couple of weeks of acceptances. I’m cloudy on where I read that but I have in mind that by February 1st we should know if there are scholarships. If anyone has more concrete data, please share!

@TXRunningMom Oh ya I just saw a post by Georgia Tech from last year. Decisions were released at noon on Saturday, so it’s probably the same this year.

Noon on Saturday it is then. Thanks all.
