Georgia Tech GPA???

Hey, I'm doing the Self-Reported Academic Record part of the Georgia Tech app. My question is, since my school doesn't give number grades for each course, should I just put the letter grade in the final grade box? (i.e. A-, B+) If not, what am I supposed to do???

Yes, put the final letter grade in that box. Don’t forget to put a grade for each semester (or trimester) you took that course.

Wait, but if it’s an all year course, it says I don’t need to fill in the trimester boxes. I just put a final grade, right? And when I calculate my GPA according to their system, I get like a 3.5-3.6 even though I only have A’s and B’s. Does this kill my chances or something?

post your grades, and we can calculate it and see if anything’s asmiss.

9th grade:

Business A
English 1 A-
Geometry (Honors) A-
Biology (Honors) A-
World History A-
Spanish 2 A-

10th grade: (I messed up big time)

Accounting (Honors) A-
English 2 B-
Algebra 2 (Honors) C+
Chemistry (Honors) B-
US History 1 B+
Spanish 3 B+

11th grade: (Sort of came back)

College English 3 A-
Precalculus (Honors) B+
Physics (Honors) A
US History 2 B+
Civics & Govt. (Honors) B
Spanish 4 B+

12th grade courses with first marking period grades:

College English 4 A-
Computer Graphics 1 A
AP Calculus BC B+
AP Computer Science B+
AP Physics C A
Anatomy & Physiology (Honors) B+

As you can see, it’s pretty bad. Do I have a shot?

you have a shot, but it’s not looking too good. The main problem is that you have hardly any AP classes…

Thanks for the chance. By the way, my SAT is 2140 and my school doesn’t really offer too many APs before senior year. The only ones I could have taken were AP US History 1 and 2 and AP Chemistry, but they really aren’t my subjects if you know what I mean.

I calculate a 3.44 GT WGPA. You have to remember that Tech doesn’t count non-core application classes like Accounting, Computer Graphics, and Business. They only count Hard Sciences (including Computer Science), Math, Social Sciences, and Languages (including English and Foreign).

That GPA is definitely well on the low end (well under the 25th percentile), but it wouldn’t be the first time someone with that GPA got in, especially with Calc BC and Physics C on your transcript and a 2100+ SAT. Hopefully your Math SAT is 700+ and you catch a break. Good luck.

Thanks, and yes, my Math SAT is 700+…it’s too bad they don’t consider Math II since I scored a 760 on that.

Yeah, it’s too bad. Tech uses a formula to give every student a score, then the highest XXX scores are offered admission, the next XXXX scores are wait listed, etc. If they included SAT subject tests for you, they’d have to require everyone else to also submit subject test scores.

Well, doesn’t hurt to try I guess…
