I am currently a college Freshman outside of Georgia and will apply to transfer to GT fall 2019. In my current school, I am pursuing a double major in Comp Sci and Finance. Would my chances be significantly higher if I choose the Finance route, since Comp Sci is like the most demanded major at GT? Does anyone know if there are less competitive STEM related majors that would help me with a higher chance? Appreciated in advance.
As a transfer student, I do not believe you can change majors once you get to GaTech, so go with the major you want. as you will be stuck with it, I believe. To get in, you need mostly As and I think they will look at your math ACT or SAT score as well as your composite score . Also you need to have taken the freshman subjects where you are, so English 1 and 2, linear algebra, etc, look at the GaTech freshman curriculum and copy it where you are. That will up your chances. All Gatech freshman take linear algebra, calculus, English 1 and 2, and the beginning CS classes. See if GaTech will give you transfer credits by looking up the classes you are taking here.
The good news about CS is that you don’t need prestige to have a well-paid job in computers. Don’t let a college tell you what to major in. Keep a few back-up schools. If they turn you down for a CS major at GA Tech, get it somewhere else. Also, going out of state is triple the cost of staying in-state. For CS, it’s simply not worth the cost, since your degree is going to be employable just the same.
