Georgia Tech Verification Process [IMPORTANT]

My financial aid application was selected for verification and I just got this notification yesterday. I am required to upload my W-2 from 2015 but I’ve never worked before and therefore don’t have one. I am also required to upload a Verification of Non-Tax Filers Letter and since I’ve never filed tax before, there is no record of me at all and I can’t get the letter online or through the phone. My only option is to get it mailed and that takes 5-10 days. Problem is that the deadline is on Jan 31 and the college isn’t replying to my emails. What do I do about not having a W-2 and is it okay if my VONF letter is uploaded after the deadline?

Let them know that you don’t have a W2. They will waive the requirement (they may want a written, signed statement - but they not - so ask). You either have to wait for the nonfiler statement in the mail or go to a Social Security Office to get one. No other options, unfortunately. While the verification deadline is 1/31, you will still be able to submit the documents after the deadline. It might impact your ability to get school grants, SEOG, or work study … but it also might not (you might not get any of them, anyway … or you might get them, after all). The thing is, you can only get it to them when you get it. Send it immediately as soon as you get the nonfiler letter.

@kelsmom Thank you! Would going to a local IRS office for the VONF letter work too?

@kelsmom

Why would one go,to,the SS office to get a non-filers statement??

OP would go to the local IRS office. He should have the request form printed, completed and ready to give to them. They IRS would print out the statement for him.

Oops - I did mean IRS office! I was just telling someone else to go to the SS office for a different reason … so it was still on my mind! :slight_smile:
