Getting a D

My AP Gov and AP Econ are both semester classes but we operate in a block schedule so technically our final grade is given at the end of the year. Right now, I have a D in AP Gov and I don’t think I can raise it up by the end of first semester. I think technically the grade we get on our report card for first semester would be our quarter grade because of the whole block schedule thing. My school goes by semester so the D this semester won’t count towards my GPA either. Still, I know colleges are going to see it in the mid-year report. Will this kill my chances in getting into any decent college?

It will hurt you of course, a D is a bad grade no matter what. What colleges are you applying to? What are your other grades, because too many bad grades can get you rescinded.

All B’s

and uh most UC’s, Cal Poly Pomona and SLO, U of Washington, U of Illinois, U of Mass, U of Georgia, NYU, USC, Purdue, Northeastern, Boston U

I applied to many schools lol

UC’s and CSU’s provisional admission contract requires that you get no D’s or F’s in your Senior year or face being rescinded. I would find out for sure what grade goes on your final transcript and make sure it is C or better. If not, then wait for your acceptances, notify admissions at the schools of interest and see how to deal with the issue. Some schools may only require that you get a C or higher by year’s end. I know at my son’s HS school, AP Gov and AP Econ are each a semester class. If your school is the same, you could retake the class next semester but you would still have to report your D to the schools.

What was your GPA and SAT scores going into Senior Year?

If you are borderline with GPA and test scores, it could kick you into the rejected pile. It shows adcoms that you just blew off the course.

@Gumbymom yeah ours is semester too but its a semester dragged out throughout the year because we do block with ap econ

@suzyQ7 3.6 and 33 ACT lol low gpa

The UCs require you to notify them of any grades below a C at the end of your 1st semester. See http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/how-to-apply/after-you-apply/ Other schools may also.

I don’t know how the UCs consider your block scheduling, but there is someone that should. Go talk to your GC.
