<p>I've never tried to get a job for only three weeks before. What are someplaces that will hire a college student for such a short period of time? </p>
<p>I guess a lot of people just go back to their old employers over the break? I got laid off at the beginning of summer. I called up an old boss at another job to see if I could work there, but she had quit, and I don't know any of the current management. I'd really like a job if I could find one. Ideas?</p>
<p>You could look at Walmart or Target; those types of places always need extra seasonal help. If you're really desperate, you could try being a Santa or one of Santa's helpers at your local mall.</p>
<p>I asked my old boss to re-hire me, but not many places are willing to deal with the paperwork of putting someone new on the payroll for only a few weeks. The reason why old bosses can do it is because they already have your information in their system.</p>

<p>When I was in college, I used to register with a temp agency or two during my winter break, and they always kept me busy. Those are employment agencies that hire temporary workers - either to work on short-term projects or to fill in for employees who are on leave, were fired or quit. During the winter, lots of people call in sick, so I was mostly hired to fill in for receptionists. I did this in both NY and DC, but I'm sure most cities have temporary employment agencies.</p>
<p>Babysit, tutor someone, look for a job at your college or one near your home (admissions, health services, and other departments should still be open and quite busy during this time of year). Ask your neighbors, find odd jobs.</p>
<p>I'm going to be helping at an SAT prep academy (kinda like Kaplan, but it's lesser known). You can also look at restaurants.</p>
<p>I have a few friends doing winterships for political campaigns, but it might be too late to get a position with one.</p>

<p>I ended up running into the brother of a girl who graduated with me, and he mentioned that his sister was being pushed to work more hours at her job. So I called her, and she talked to her boss, and now I am a "sandwhich artist" at Subway... worked out fairly well, I think.</p>
