I'm in kind of a tough situation: I'm planning on transferring to UCLA this fall, but I might possibly get a C in the one class I'm taking this semester (a bit complicated) and I'm wondering whether or not if it's better to just withdraw from the class instead of risking a C. The class doesn't effect the unit count requirement, nor is it a major pre-requisite class or for IGETC. None of the so-called advisors from the undergraduate admissions office could answer my question so I turned here.

Tomorrow is the deadline to drop my class with a W, and neither UCLA nor my professor has responded back to my e-mails! Responses would be greatly appreciated!

thats sounds like a tough situation. I would drop if its not for major pre-requisite nor for IGETC. When the school admitted you, they wouldn’t have considered the class as an important factor for admission.

Carefully read your admission contract concerning completion of courses that you had listed as currently taking and planning to take prior to transfer. You do not want to do anything that could violate your contract with UCLA. Getting a C in a course is not likely to get you rescined but violating your contract by dropping a class you are contracturally obligated to finish would.

I was in the exact same position as you, and here’s my advice. As long as the class isn’t a major pre-req, required for igetc, and as long as you have enough units to transfer; you will be fine. (Be sure to have at least a decent reason for dropping)

I dropped my class and everything was fine. Here is what willl happen, you submit your provisional form, and they will review it. Rather than seeing the “CONGRATULATIONS” page from UCLA, it will say “we are reviewing your provisional form and will respond 5-10 days.” (Although I got a response after 2 days saying everything was fine.) If all is okay, they will put the congratulations page back on.

I’m in the same boat here. Currently I’m taking Bio 103 (for cal which i got rejected from) which is not needed as a major pre-req for biology transfers to ucla. Also, it won’t affect the unit count…the last drop date is this friday and I’m going to see a counselor tomorrow. What should I do :(?

I withdrew from a class and UCLA didn’t rescind my acceptance. I didn’t even give a good reason for withdrawing either.

it’s been exactly two weeks since i submitted mine and no response. i called multiple of times but they just are no help and tell me to wait. what gives?? the class i drop has no purpose for igetc, unit count, or prereqs… I was admitted as a bus econ major

did you use the provisional form lildrkdragon? i thought it was the email at first until i looked again.

what reason did you guys put down?

yes i used to provisional problem form. i contacted them several of times and they just tell me to wait… when it does not make sense since many people submitted after I did and already got a response. I dropped the class because of a family emergency out of the state which resulted in missing a midterm that i could not make up
